PD 130 Sport Vs 130 FR. Difference's?

I've convinced my Brother that his next car should be a SEAT and he quite likes the Ibiza TDI range, and due to budget is looking at a PD 130. What both of us are finding hard to work out is what they differ on?
To the untrained eye they both look the same and share the same engine, so is it down the interior or is there something glaringly obvious on the outside (except the titanuim mirrors) that we have missed?
Any pointers and advise on these specs is welcome and gratefully received.

Not really higher spec as the original TDI sport's had extra dials... voltage and oil temperature iirc.

Didn't realise that. They aren't really needed though, so i'm sure he can live without them.

Original sport also had heated mirrors and a boot light which pre facelift FR's don't have...

He could get a pre-reg TDI Cupra for the same price as a new FR, there's one floating around on a thread here somewhere with only 56 miles on the clock

You know it makes sense!

The cupra comes with
ESP
160BHP PD TDI engine,
Cupra interior
Cupra bumpers
Cupra brakes
Cupra exhaust
Cupra written on the back
Cupra red dials on air vents

depends if you don't have a problem spending nearly double on your insurance premiums!

if its the power that is drawing you in, get the PD130 remapped!
more power than the standard cupra!

i got an insurance quote recently and a remap will only add £100 to my premium, rather than another £250 to own a cupra

Yes but remap the Cupra and get 200BHP

Incredibly quick TDI

Additionally if you remap the FR you will need to install a front mount FMIC otherwise you will suffer heat gain issues

If you're buying brand new, then you won't get a PD130 Sport - the current sport's a PD100, the FR has the PD130.

SEAT stopped the PD130 Sport when the FR was launched, because as you said otherwise there'd be hardly any difference between them

Then Seat split the range and the Sport is now dumped with the 100 TDI, while the FR is effectively the old 130 TDI Sport and the Cupra remains the same.

Except the SE was the 100bhp version - the sport was only 130 - I think....

yeah thats right, i was looking at tdi sport but you have to be carefull as the newer ones are the 100bhp models

just gonna go straight for the fr tdi now

Might as well give my version of the models.

When the 130 bhp Sport was introduced no Cupra was available.

In early 2004 the FR 1.8 20vt was introduced and a little later the 130 diesel FR. Shortly after that the diesel and petrol Cupras arrived.

After the introduction of the FRs the subsequent Sport models had smaller engines and lower spec than the FRs.

Differences between the Sport and FR are as mentioned earlier.

I think that's correct but no doubt someone will tell me I'm wrong.

Had my MY07 (model yr) revo'd nd its done two trackdays with no heat issues but im sure it has a FMIC i'll go have a look in a minte or two

Didnt see a FMIC when I saw the car if im honest matey, also you wont really notice heat issue's during the winter. But during the summer, if say you came across a mapped version with a FMIC, you would notice

So thats that then. But as your talking about *new* Ibiza's the main difference is engine power. If you want the PD130 then FR it is!
