Cheers Guys, i wasn't aware of the sport being a 100bhp engine so that was something he'd like to know before viewing any of them.
The Cupra is tempting him, but as mentioned, the Ins GP isn't good, and with a remap the FR should give a standard Cupra TDI some trouble.
I'll pass this info onto him and see what he decides.
Thanks for all the tips
Dave

If he has trouble with insurance get your Mum/Dad/Sister (anyone with loads of safe driving history) put on the insurance as a second driver, keep it on the drive/garage at night and tell them.

It may work out significantly cheaper.

Also ring every insurance company you can find, try the back pages of max power (sad I know) also What car magazine, EVO and any other, also try moneysupermarket.com and this is money and confused.com, 2 hours on the phone could save hundreeds of pounds and always tell the insurance company your last quote is lower than it was.

Have I missed anything?

I don't think insuring it would be a problem financialy or otherwise, as he's 26 with 5+ NCB behind him. It's not un-affordable, but more than he needs to spend for a car that can acheive the same performance with a remap and GRP 8 Ins. Makes sense for him to go for the cheaper option and afford better spec if he wants it.

It may have the same performance in a straight line, but the Cupra will stop a lot better than the puny 288mm brakes you get on the FR. Personally if insurance wasn't an issue I'd go for the Cupra as it's got AP 4 pots and the FMIC as standard so you'd be spending less money modding it in the long run.

Obviously the upra will stop better with the bigger brake set up, but he's not going to be hammering around a track, just normal road use.
I think you misunderstood my point about insurance. I meant he wouldn't have any probs getting insured due to age and experience, but the reason he wants a nippy little Derv is to kep running costs down, and with the Cupra being alot higher up the Ins groupings, it takes the price up with it.
Besides, he doesn't have to worry about the cost of mods too much as he is a manager at one Demon Tweeks:rolleyes:

My 2006 facelift FR has electric heated & folding mirrors AND a boot light!!!! No option packs on that one either. I think it depends what days the car was built and if the spaniards could be bothered to fit certain items! ;)

I couldn't beleive I didn't get a boot light or glove box light with the Cupra:cry:

it's not really something you check for on a test drive is it:doh:

It's like checking for an engine you just expect it to be there!

I don't think he will miss a boot light (one could be wired in easily enough) but i think he likes the folding mirors on my Leon, and heated mirrors is handy with the frosty mornings we had recently.
Just have to check the spec list before ordering if he decides to get one.
