How bizzare! Had this converstation on Friday at work.

I came up against one in my FR TDi, A57, plenty of roundabouts. I kept this thing firmly stuck behind me for several of them as I managed to take the roundabouts at a fair pace.

Until I got to a dual carridgeway part, again I held him off till the next roundabout, me in the left lane, him in the right both of us slowed to around 20mph and left about the same time to go straight on, he nailed it and suitable went in front of me as the lanes went into 1.

Now this is where me and the wife where gobsmacked, this thing took off, and I mean I was accellerating hard but got to 70mph and he was just pulling and pulling. Now I am 13 stone and the misses is only 8.5 stone, so we wernt carrying that much weight, the pug was a single driver only.

I have to be honest I have not had anyone do that to me 40-80 in the trusty FR. So I am not entirely convinced that that little pug was standard! If it was fair play to him.

I have had the same "race/play/whatever" with my mate in his Cupra R and he could pull away from the roundabout, but at 40mph I am on him and he could not shake me.

all i can add is the Pug106 GTi is brilliant, 1.6 16V only weighs 900kg or so... i love it, its like a go kart and handles v well. I am unsure of its bhp etc as its had a superspring manifold and exhaust system added and a bmc cda indy kit. But, i am sure it will take the FR anyday... lol. Now lets see the reaction i get.

Well done, you exhumed an old thread that everyone had forgotton about and in all honesty, I don't think anyone cares about anymore.

I'm glad you like your car. I don't have one, or an FR, I have Cupra, and I like mine, but i'm sure yours is a good car too.

So Horay for all us!

i saw this and thought "why has soemone bloody dug this up?"

....to be honest, it doesnt bother me if yours is faster than mine, it might well be, if so then fair enough.

But I do know which car i'd rather be sat in :funk:

The Pug 106 GTIs are 130bhp i think but can be taken to around 170 with a few simple mods.
I had a play with a modified one about a month ago between roundabouts and I only marginally had the best of it and my FR TDI is remapped!

actually 106GTi/VTSs are 120bhp standard

there was some stupid debate years ago about "2 prong heads" that had 130bhp but it was rubbish cos the prongs they referred to were for EGR valves

i wouldnt say 170bhp with a few simple mods, cams, bodies and a remap along with the basics maybe. not very simplistic or cheap
