yes but the power in that switch dims with the lights im sure, just wack your interior lights up full just to be safe so that you can get a reading.

ok i back. needle didnt budge. sprirted drive down dual carriageway 100+ no difference.

as for where my powers from russ im 99% sure its correct. i took plug from back of main light switch and found the wire that was activated when the ignition was turned on. red/black. im going to check and make sure there aint a break in the sender wire.

The only thing i can suggest now is the use of a fluke multimeter? You get them in argos for about a tenner!

Check power is getting through to the sender and you'll also be able to check ignition live. If there are any breaks in the wire you'll find it using a fluke!

Yep turn on ignition and see if you get a reading at the sender!

If not then its obvious its nothing to do with the sender! Something is going wrong before that and with a fluke you should be able to tell where!

im guessing that because the sender is essentially a plug anyway it should be ok until i go to garage.

car seems to run fine.

service manager at dealers will be rubbing his ahnd when i tell him what happened

Oops

Yes as long as its in there and its not leaking oil its okay.

You have 2 options now! You can try and unscrew the sender from the housing and fit another sender or you can leave it in there as a blanking plug and go to 2nd option of fitting sender as an oil drain plug at the bottom of the sump!

This would obviously require you getting under the car and losing an engine full of oil! You'd also need to reroute the wire down to the underside of the car!

Make sure it is not leaking though so go for a 'spirited' drive and come back and do an oil leak check in the area! Clean up any old oil first though so you can 100% make sure its not leaking oil!

If it is, then i wouldn't really drive the car until you have sorted it out! The last thing you want is to be running your engine dry!

i have a autogauge oil temp guage and im fitting it to an amk s3 engine in my golf, i had to use a t piece so i could fit my oil pressure sender and my oil temp sender in the one blanking plug spot. it ended up i needed to file the oil temp sender down a bit as it was causing the top to protrude out too much, i filed it down too far and have exsposed the internals. bugger. does any one know where i can buy just a oil temp sender for the autogauge guages. ( i was thinking of bunging the sender with chemical metal but i fear the sende may not work so i may aswell buy a new one.)

I snapped mine off in oil pump housing because it was protruding a few threads. So be careful!!! I just emailed the person i bought it from and they sent me out a new one for free.

Still cant get the thing to work.

Just watch when your tightning it!!!!!

Hi guys, interesting thread. I've an autometer oil temp guage to fit to my car, its second hand so I've no instructions.

Would anyone be as kind as to post up a photo of the oil temp sender please.

Cheers.
