bit of good press for modified leons

nice write up songman.

have to sort my lcs internals before i can go futher. not quite as strong as the lcr i think. but this threads very imformative/tempting

know what you mean about driving skills with this level of power.. learning all the time. such a different car! previous car... 2 years ago.. astra sri 130bhp k plate. huge learning curve. didnt even know what bhp was when i got my leon.

heres to dry roads and cold temps:D

A pilot`s licence should be a basic requirement for anyone wishing to move up from a 130 Astra to an IHI Leon - are you sure it`s only the car`s internals you`re worrying about?;)

Well, I was very pleased to promote the Leon cause today! - `Hug a Hoodie` is passe now - It`s `Love my Leon` time .
In truth,I was very flattered to be asked, I can assure you - Rob`s car is a National treasure!

Did suffer a bit I must admit - the shoot took 8 hours:scary: - it was so cold out there!

Never again will I believe the legend, that Scotsmen of old wore nothing under their kilts:blink:

There`s life in the old `Bumblebee` yet, however - I was at Knockhill today for a photoshoot with Performance VW mag - Rob Don and myself - Scottish Leons!! - Rob`s car is a work of art!!

Anyway I suspect you`ll all soon see my ugly mug , grinning out at you from the glossy page :fool: - it was colder than the darkside of Hell up there, but photographer Steve McCann still managed to get some great shots :funk:

Songman,
What issue of PVW are you going to be in?
Was it a timed shoot out, 0-60mph etc, or a write up with engine specifications and pictures?

Hopefully yes Bill ! - still tryin to work out if I`ll have to sell the house to pay for the insurance for the Vette- will make a big effort to be there - I really enjoyed it last year - guess I`m in for a real good whoopin` this year with that 500+bhp of yours

LOL, more power makes for more tyre smoke.
traction is optional lol

It` just a feature about the two cars aidy. We`ve been talking about it since last summer - Scottish Leons - pics, spec, and text - the thing you see that looks like Papa Smurf is indeed me, with ma `woolie bunnett`on - It was v cold:cry:

Steve the snapper showed me some of his shots and they were fantastic, so if the editor likes `em too, hopefully we should end up in print sometime soon - i`ll keep you posted.

Rob`s car is amazing - the best Leon of any type, i`ve ever seen. From boot to bonnet, he`s modded every part to meet his spec - mechanics, trim instrumentation, and the rest - a fantastic job, detailed to perfection - does him great credit

I hope the feature comes off, it will be well worth a look.

There was a performance feature with BT cars in December 06 edition of PVW.

Looking forward to the feature Songman! Hopefullly it comes off for you. It sounds as though you had a great day! bar being a little cold.
Hopefully you will see me in the May edition of Golf+ magazine. I was at Jabba at the same time they were there. They were doing a feature on Jabbasport, and what they do there.

I'm looking into getting the Aquamist system. Do any of you guys run the Aquamist set up on your cars?
Does it work? Will i benefit?
I have read that running with 50% methanol it is a bit like an octane booster? i'm hoping when the warmer weather comes it will hopefully kill the temperatures slightly. :flamed:
Could you let me know your thoughts please!

50% is'nt usually advised... too much.
10-20% tops has worked well for me keeping temps under control.

It was so effective, ragging the ibiza round the nurburgring a few years ago, return back in and the inlet manifold was cold to touch. (15% water meth)

basic system 1s on mine, now on 0.8mm jet

I have used the basic 1s system at 10~20% added methanol for 40,000 IHI miles now - as Bill says, it`s worked great. - I know there are claims of increased performanceas because of the the `octane booster `effect of the methanol. I can`t prove or disprove this.

I have my doubts, because there is so little water/ methanol used, at least in my case - the main idea of the methanol is to act as an antifreeze to protect the pump -ethanol based products destroy the seals.

There may well be an additional evaporative cooling effect as a consequence of using the methanol.

I did some VAG Com logs last summer and you could see a dip in the temps when the Aquamist kicked in

As yet there are no apparent problems with the LCR`s internals though I have had one Aquamist pump failure - The big caveat is not to run the pump dry or you will knacker it.

As the setup I have, uses the windscreen washer bottle as a supply, it`s easy to run it dry with the standard capacity bottle if, say, you have to use the washers a lot on a long run and are a bit forgetful - even with the LAL for the washer bottle on the warning light display you can get caught out.

Best plan is to use the larger 5lt washer bottle from the euro spec cars with headlight washers - this gives a bigger margin of safety - its freely available[approx£25 IIRC] and fits the LCR fine:)

Aquamist have a very good website with loads of info http://www.aquamist.co.uk/

I have the 2d system which flows water proportional to the fuel flow. Im currently using a 30% meth mix and on the whole there is less CF. Should make a big difference when it come to summer. It is well worth the money as john and bill say.

I had a Jabba baffled sump fitted - but you don`t need it for road use I would think, at least not unless you`re in the habit of pulling 1.0G round roundabouts - maybe if you`re a trackday fan.

I'm pretty sure you need it for the darnley round on ramp to the A77. Charging onto the dual carriage way the engine just didn't sound right. Thats what prometed me to get one fitted.

If your spending all that money why save a few hundred bucks. Another option is accusump.

Didnt realise Bill that you could get different size jets. Do you think the 0.5mm jet would be sufficient enough with my power levels?

Yumann, if you dont mind me asking, what spec is your LCR, is it running BT? :D

No big turbo yet, I do have all the parts neccessary bar turbo, mani, dp, and injectors which are all inter-related (no final decision yet on combo). It will however be some sort of garrett turbo.

Current Spec is:

Quaife ATB Diff
Dahlback Racing Intake Manifold
Audi RS4 oil cooler
Aquamist 2d water injection
Baffle sump
Miltek sport exhaust
200 cell race cat
Green dynatwist filter
Full samco hose set
Forge 007p DV
VF engineering engine mounts
VF transmission mount
VF dog bone mount
Eiback pro-street s coilovers
Neuspeed front 25mm arb
Neuspeed rear 28mm arb
Audi s3 strut brace
Brembo cross drilled discs
Galfer 1065 race pads

Still to go on:
Pauter riffle drilled rods(still to arrive been a while now)
Supertech valves
Pro alloy intercooler
Custom full race catch tank(with drain back)
Custom modded rocker cover (with added internal baffle)
JIC/AN blue red anodised fittings
SPA design oil temp/oil pressure dual gauges
VEM wideband lambda sensor with EGT
Aston Martin Monobloc calipers

I'm pretty sure thats it but could be some other stuff too.

Oh i have a walrbo 255lph secondary pump sitting sowhere too
Forge Short Shifter

I started with small one, and went onto largest as the engine progressed. you want control, too much is a waste of water for no gain, its a case of logging and trialing.

Impressive spec there Yumann, :-o what sort of power and torque are you hoping for once BT? Any figure in mind?
You seemed to have uprated or going to uprate everything!
I dont blame you though, as there is no point in cutting corners. ;)

I`ve been following that Vortex thread too Bill - very interesting - things move on, so guess the Dahlback is old hat now. There`s always something new.

No wonder DB is discounting them! - least it flows the same as stock, and looks nice polished;)

Back to the drawing board with yours?
