The DAB's only a 1.4 - it shouldn't need anything more special than bog standard 95 RON unleaded. It's only when you get to the big 20vt's that you need to start thinking about super.

Yeah, wont make a difference on 1.4's!!! The only car Ive had that it made a difference on mas my Mg Zs 180 - which was a 2.5 V6. It allowed me to get around 20 miles more to the tank, but the cost of Shell Optimax meant that it didnt really offer any monetary savings.
Just before I got rid of the 180, the Tesco 99 Octane stuff came out and was miles cheaper than Opitmax and got around the same results.

So you only get 260 - 280 miles per tank in a 1.4??

How many litres is the Mk4 fuel tank? I can get that out of my Mk3 Ibiza Cupra Turbo and it has a 45 Litre tank.
It's the same 45L that the Mk3 has. However one way to getting better fuel economy is to stop using the throttle as an on/off switch.

I used to get about 312 miles to a tank. Which I was never too impressed with. Half the problem was driving the thing hard to try and do simple things like overtake.

Out of interest Mehdi, what kind of driving are you normally doing to get that kind of mileage ? urban driving or a bit of everything ?

If your getting under 300 miles to a 45L tank in a 1.4, somethings not right.

My ZS was a 50L tank and I got 280 to 300 and I drove that hard!!

I had this whole discussion about the Mk 4 1.4 mpg in a previous thread....

see here..

Lot's of helpful comments there.

280 miles to a tank isn't that unusual for a 1.4, just depends what kind of driving you do. Mine is stuck in traffic a LOT of the time, which really drinks fuel. Mine has nearly 20k on the clock so isn't that new... Do you think it should still improve Tommmineh??

I have switched to BP Ultimate now that I have the beeza back to see if it has any effect. It seems to go a little bit less like a wounded tortoise when pulling away but it might just be all psychological from driving a crappy pug 207 hirecar...

How do you lot drive your 1.4s? I do alot of motorway driving which I find drinks fuel as opposed to sticking to A roads as you tend ot do alot of overtaking of lorries etc. on the motorway.

I think Vpower makes mine respond better and gives slightly better mpg, could be placebo effect but mine does seem to take off quicker with it rather than make me feel like ai'm flogging a dead horse. Mine is the 75ps and probably needs more revving than the more powerful DAB version.

I have a 1.4 DAB and it is approaching 1,000 miles now, and I am regularly getting around 35 mpg (average) driving around Cornish lanes. This is not driving it too hard, but certainly not hanging about. This does involve accelerating from corner to corner! You should be getting more than 260 miles to a tank.

By the way the fuel cap doesn't say that you need super unleaded, and I have never used it.

i main journies are to college and back, and when im cruising, and it is around a 8-10 minute drive a day, where im on dual carrageway, doing around 70-80, although i have to go throught 7 roundabouts!!! i just rechecked the manual, and it said to fill super 95/ super 98 RON for the DAB(100bhp), whilst looking on the 86bhp 1.4 it said to fill normal 95?! ive done around 4.000 miles with the car, and thought it owuld get better with time. fuel light is on, done 245 miles, and it says got 15miles left to the tank!!! so dont no if the ultimate is worth it? as like mattyfab said i thoguth it wasnt needed on a 1.4!! on motorway driving the best ive got was 350 to a tank, although that was at 60 and involved roadworks on m1 and m25 with traffic, so couldnt go fast!!! whats the difference between vpower and btultimate???? thanks, med

I'm getting about the same MPG (260-280MPG) in the petrol fr

I used tesco 99 octane petrol in my fr 20vt once and the MPG was exactly the same (I even did an ecu reset too)
also the responsiveness was no different, well if it was better it was not noticeable to me

so it's back to the supermarket stuff...................no probs here

if you only use it for a 20 min drive to work and cruising in traffic all day i'd be impressed at 300

mainly local use = 200 miles in mine (2.016v) on a run i can get a lot lot more though
