I have the "02" plate of this car. Let me know if you have any spec questions.

I can't comment on price as I don't follow that sort of thing. There should be room for negotiation with any dealer. If you can, sell your current car privately -- otherwise any money you knock off the dealer, they will handle by also devalueing your trade-in.

It will come with the traction control on the front two wheels, but not the Cupra R version which has the traction control over all four wheels.

cheers buddy. just noticed they're both in leeds, in the same postcode!

i'll bear your generous offer in mind as i know next to nothing when it comes to cars. if it aint got a massive dent in each panel it looks ok to me

is the 1.9 tdi 150 cupra still pretty quick then?

thanks for any advice...

Lots, styling and power are different (do a search for full details) but the Cupra is 180bhp and the Cupra R is 210 or 225bhp dependant on the year.

Just my personal opinion - but the petrol version 1.8T looks rather expensive as it is just a standard Cupra. You could perhaps get a Cupra-R for that money although the mileage would be a little higher.

I am in the market and I have found similar models for around £7,500 with 30,000-40,000 so you may wish to shop around.

The Cupra comes with 180bhp with traction control to the front wheels only. The Cupra-R is the hotter version with early models having 210bhp and later models having 225bhp plus traction control to all four wheels. Obviously, insurance is much higher on the Cupra-R. The 1.9TDi is a quick car (I think it has 150bhp) and will obviously give you better fuel economy (40mpg compared to around 30mpg).

If you are thinking about spending that kind of money, I personally would pick up a Cupra-R. Of course, if power is something you are worried about, you could always look at upgrading the power via the ECU. This is literally done in about 15 minutes and can add 30bhp to your car for around £500 all in. Something you may consider if you want more power.

Hope that helps and let us know what you buy in the end.

Cheers - Cobraman

thanks for the advice...

i think i will persue the cupra r, if i just get the cupra i'll feel im missing out on something, which im sure i would be.

im sure the power that a 225bhp cupra r will give will more than satisfy my needs, i'll prob only get to drive it at weekends cause i work only 500 yds from where i live. i must try and get another job!

so ideally id like:

no older than 2004
225bhp
no more than 40k
the missus doesnt want yellow
i want black or platinum
£10k tops

anyone interested in a very tidy 'X' plate tolly 1.8 20V S to help me towards my cupra? :funk:

cheers guys/gals

Don't restrict yourself to just the 225 version, as the difference between the 210 and 225 is sod all, even in terms of power and performance! Don't let the marketing B.S. put you off good deals on 210s.

You'll easily get an 03 or 53 plate LCR for your budget, but any later than that and you'll need to keep looking hard. They are out there, just not as readily available.

Get the OVNI yellow (it really does the car justice) or black as it makes it look more menacing than silver (in my opinion).

I agree with RobM. 15bhp makes little difference as the suspension remained the same with the 210 and 225bhp models. There is something like a 0.2 second difference in the 0-60mph sprint between the models which is silly for the sake of an extra £1,000 that you will probably pay. However, the 180bhp and 210bhp shows a full 1 second difference in the 0-60mph sprint. So I would go for the 210 Cupra-R.

You are likely to get a tidy Leon Cupra-R for £10k if you go for the 210bhp version which is fast enough. Of course, instead of paying an extra £1,000 for the 225bhp, you could always upgrade the power to 230bhp for just £500 extra with a remap of the engine. This offers you more power than the 225bhp Cupra-R for less money which makes much more sense.

Drive the two cars (210 and 225) and you will notice there is nothing between them except a £1000 more in price.

Cheers - Cobraman

I agree entirely with Cobraman, of course, but will pick up on one point... a £500 remap will see you on the sunny side of 250-260bhp, so even more value for money :)

cheers guys.

spending my morn at work looking through ads! as u say Rob, an 03 or 53 plate looks very do-able for £10k, found 6 possibles on pistonheads, one of em im not sure if its only a cupra although its advertised as a cupra r? (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/127282.htm)

still gonna keep looking for a 2004 version. am i right in thinking a 53 plate cud of been registered in 2004?

210bhp will do. mostly the missus that will be driving it so thats plenty for her! im all for the yellow, but she said she'll leave me if i buy a yellow! :)whistle: ) the tolly i have at mo is red so fancy a change. and i do prefer the black tbh.

i'll keep looking...

That PistonHeads link is defo a Cupra R :) If it's not, they have spend a stupid amount of money getting it to look like a Cupra R! The Recaro interior is a good option to have too.

As I said before, just bear in mind that the difference between the 210 and the 225 is sod all. Most 210's rolling road at significantly more than 210bhp anyway, yet the 225's always make book power.

And yes, a 53 could be registered in 2004. Any time before March 1st 2004 in fact.

That does look like a Cupra-R. Just make sure you read the V5 logbook as it will say it on there.

RobM - I didn't know the remap for £500 on a Cupra-R takes the car up to 250bhp. Is this under the Revo Stage 1 or are we looking at a Stage 2 or 3 for this kind of power? If it is just £500 for a Revo Stage 1, I may actually save up a little and get a 210bhp Cupra-R (instead of the Cupra) and spend another £500 for this power outage. Rock on. :funk:
