In a way yes, and no. What it will be like to drive afterwards and will i feel comfortable driving it afterwards?i have absolutly no idea.

I don't think you should even think about that at the moment and i know what you mean but it's only the memory of it that you will have to deal with!

They will repair it as good as new so it's only that you KNOW it was in an accident, you know?

At least you know that it wasn't because of the car that you had the accident, that should give you a little bit of hope

Was anything else damaged thats non standard...?

Or will you only have to replace the FMIC?

Good news its being repaired, Hopefully it will feel the same to drive...

Ask for the estimate.. I'm quite suprised to hear they're repairing it.

Unless cost of parts for Seats has been reduced siginificantly in the last 3-4 years, I'd expect it to cost significantly more...

Basis for my expectations:
- in march 2004 - due to a lorry cutting my ibiza up, forcing me off road (slip road onto M25), hitting kerb, the side airbags, and pretensioners went off, and two wheels were replaced, with no body work damage this cost ~£2000
- in november 2004 - I hit a car at low speed <10mph, bumper, bonnet, wing, offside front head light, fmic, foglights and radiator were replaced... this cost ~£3500

Have the chassis legs been damaged? - if so, car may well drive like a dog once repaired.

Seeing as bits of your engine look pushed back too, I'm suprised they can think they can repair it economically... (i.e. for under 50% of the car's value) are you sure the garage doesn't just fancy a nice load of work prior to their financial year end?

I'd strongly recommend getting an independant estimater to look at it, as its worth the effort to avoid having a turd of a car to live with afterwards - Christian @ Ideal Motor Coachworks in Brixworth (near northampton) comes highily recommended - Ideal Motor's have done cosmetic work on my cars, and are very good.

One question... I thought airbags wouldn't fire unless closing speed of an accident was over 20mph?

Im amazed Dan that they are repairing and also agree with CPUFreak. I had an accident in a Citroen, a head on with an OAP pulling out on me on a main road. That was side front end and cost £5500 in 1998. Every time i opended the bonnet i coul dsee the repairs they'd done at Citroen - I was nver really comfortable with the car after that. Would it not be worth buying the car back, selling the parts and buying somthing else.

I hate to sound negative, but thats a bit gutting for you that they are repairing it.

My First car was an A-reg Fiesta Mk2 1.1. It was MINT, This was back in 1996 when it was still 13 yrs old. But it had 32k on the clock, and i even had an offer from the local ford delaer to buy it off of me as the Owner was desperate for a mint Mk2 fezzie.

Anyway, it got smacked by someone pulling out of a junction into me. Going rate for the car was back then was £500 and to put into context the insurance repair bill was £1900 as the assessor upon advice valued it at £3000 to get a new one in same condition.

Anyway it was repaired, had a front end smash. Sure it looked ok, and yes when i got it back only i knew it was not so mint now. But christ did it drive different, i started getting little problems from the engine, new creaks, new rattles. It basically was not my car anymore and i hated, i sold it within 3 months.

I just hope you do get it back and like it, but i personally was hoping for you ( not in a twisted or nasty way) that it WOULD be written off due to mine and others experiences,

Good luck with it, hope the bodyshop is good, i would recommend on getting down to the garage though and try and do a deal on getting the uprated parts under the insurance. If they are nice you may get a lot more on the bill than you origibnally thought.

Also do did the engine still run after the accident, i just wonder what damage could have been done on internals due to speed of collision and the way the engine seems to have taken the brunt of the impact. Also bearing in mind you last purchase of an accident victimed turbo, will this need to be changed ??

Basically what happened, was going down the M6 in the fast lane, traffic was quite quiet, looked down at my dash for maybe 3 seconds tops, looked back up and there was a van in my path, slammed the brakes on, realised at that point that i wasnt going to stop in time, and ended up hitting the back of the van, and from that point on i was just a passanger.

Hmmm, it only takes a second lapse of concentration to have an accident, but looking down at your dash for 3 seconds, while cruising along in the fast lane???? (what were you doing changing a CD)? .........

Main thing is YOU came out alive, with just your ego bruised.. and possibly your nose :D These cars are our passion, but if yours is beyond repair, you'll soon have a new baby to pamper - we do indeed live and learn! ;)

hhhhhmmmmmm, standard parts ?

why do the insurance companys make you pay more for mods then ?

that's pants mate :(

They make you pay more, as it increases risk to them...

i.e. car with lots of bling bits, would be more attractive to thieves perhaps?

or perhaps they think with potentially mismatched, or perhaps badly fitted components there'd be an increased risk something leading to a claim?

(I'm meaning in general of course)

There are insurers who will pay out for the modified parts, but they tend not to offer the lowest premiums.

Oncei get my courtacy car i will be taking a trip to the garage that is repairing it and see wha they are like. I may also see if i can pay the difference and get a facelift bumper and seat sport fmic.

No, i didnt expec them to repair the car at all, and like rash has said, he has repaired worse. if the car desnt feel the same when i get it back, i will be putting all the bits back to standard and selling it on.

@Ant, i understand completely what you are sayng mate, and i dont take it nastily. TBH even if the car drives ok afterwards, im gonna sell it on. After knowing what has happened to the car and yes, ok so it will be repaired to new apart from what ever modifications are damaged, and i accept that.

At the end of the day, i supose i ow my life to the car as if i was in a different car, or ended up hitting a lorry or worse and going over the other carrige way things could have been a hell of lot different.

These seats are made of bloody strong stuff, thats 2 people that can now prove that.
