Mine dropped but then as Uncle fester has suggested, when remapped its alot more fun and fun means less MPG.. plus i have quite extendly modifed the wheels, suspension and drive systems on my leon and lost abit of MPG dues to extra on the wheels and etc..
Soon i will be heading the same way as Devonmikey and down to allards for a upgrade in power around 260-280 mark will be what i'll be after, the i expect MPG to be down a little more unless i adopt granny driving, but why spend all that money on upgrades and then not use the full use of those upgrades!

the ECU 'learns' so resetting the ecu means it has to relearn all its adaption values, some people have had good results with this, others noticed no difference after it had re-learnt.

green cotton filters are a brand of Air Fliter that are relativly MAF (Mass Air Flow meter) friendly, MAFs tend to die alot on VAG engines, usually due to either dodgy parts or getting oily.

its the Mass Air Flow meter, as mentioned above, its the sensor just after the air box.
The task of the air-mass flow meter is to measure the fresh air mass supplied to the engine. This fresh air mass is used to calculate the exhaust gas recirculation rate and the permissible injection quantity.

restting the ECU looses no important information, only the learnt values which the ecu will relearn.

How comes remaping is so expensive. i dunno if its just me but 30mins reprogramming a chip for £425 seems alot of money for very little work.

I would estimate the cost is made up of:

R&D
Cost recovery - cost of kit / software / time, etc
Profit

still seems alot unless the software manufactures take a cut each time someone uses it like with phone unlocking software.

ah well price we pay is the price we pay i guess.
