as long shots go... this is long!
need to replace subwoofer in Beat, small car, small ICE, amp for it is only palm size!
fits into specific panels between seat uprights so no room for bigger sub
seems that 6'' is smallest available, so could a subwoofer from home audio speaker work or is resistance etc wrong?

the one i have is perishing, the flexi bit between cone & frame, glued with hot glue gun @ moment,so will need to replace soon.mind it is 16yrs old!
can't physically fit bigger sub, restricted by width, depth of plastic panel, thats why thought of home audio, prob get smaller ones in home stereos.
whats diff between 4 & 8 ohm res. speakers will either work on car audio?

The lower the impedance, the less resistance is shown to the amp and the more power the amp produces.

So, flip that around...

The higher the impedance, the more resistance is shown to the amp and the amp produces less power.

As a rule of thumb, as the impedance halves the power doubles. The reverse is also true, if the impedance doubles the power halves.

Car audio standard is 4ohm, home audio is 8ohm. So, if you have a car audio amp that produces 200watts @ 4ohm, you can expect 100watts @ 8ohm.

Very rough, 'rule of thumb' calculations and it will of course vary from one amp to the next depending on efficiency and various other factors, but it gives you something to work from at least :)

HTH! :)

I would still consider going into one of the 'cheapo' computer shops, take a look at the 2.1 & subwoofer systems for < £25.00. Most of these run from a 4" woofer in a cheap wooden box. Heck you can often find them on ebay for less than £10, failing that there's car boot sales / autojumbles.

The other thing to watch out for are bose acoustimass systems, if you can pick up one of those i'm pretty sure the sub is a 4" one. I'll have another look when i get home as i'm sure i saw an american component site that listed 4,6,8 and 10" low frequency speakers.

cant you buy a set of 4" components and just use the woofers off them

don't know.. magnet on back of old sub is nearly as big as front cone!
also replaced door speakers, 6'' fujitsu ten 150w, magnet on back also bigger than pioneer 110w replacements

presume bass subs have bigger magnets?

magnet size not always the most important look at kenwood dual mags very small magnet for speaker size but still powerfull. as these were build to keep size and weight down for performance machines.
your old speakers may say 150w and new ones 110w but it would depend on the rms rating for each.

honestly there is no more room in panel, will post pic later.
i know v. little about ICE matters so assumed magnet size matters. not complaining though, old speakers weighed just under 1kg each! whats that worth for 0-60:clap: now just need to lose some from myself:cry:

thanks for help, off to work now

Am pretty sure you'd fit a 5" woofer in there with maybe a little bit of trimming around the metalwork of the speaker, might be worth asking if someone has an old duff 5" sub unit kicking around they can loan you - something you can trim and snip to trial fit with?
