hello,

picked up me 2001 leon cupra yesterday, the only downside is the previous owner lost the remote key fob so i onyl have 1 key and it not a remote one. Whats the best way to get a remote one?

if i go to Seat whats the general price they would charge?

Are the key functions just lock and unlosk or does it do anything else (wing mirror folding etc?

Should be able to do this yourself.

An upgrade from the manual key would be to get a remote key (pref a blank one) from, say ... eBay ... and I think you should be able to programme the central locking using the steps on here (somewhere  just try a search for coding)

Then you just need to take the immobiliser transponder *carefully* from your current key and place it in the new remote key and get the blade cut at somewhere like Timpsons

Voila

To get a 2nd key coded so it'll start the engine (overcome the immobiliser) takes a little more work, and some computer/dealer intervention.

If you already have a 'spare' non-folding key, yes they're all you'll need

Then you just need to take the immobiliser transponder *carefully* from your current key and place it in the new remote key...

Coding the buttons just involves sticking one key in the ignition and using the other to lock/unlock the driver's door in a particular sequence (as above, it's detailed on here somewhere)

You'd probably be best using your keys as they are now to see if you can programme the buttons on the new eBay fob, then once you're happy it's locking/unlocking the car properly you can start cutting up your non-folding key to get the transponder out of it.

For info, if you go to Seat dealer you're probably looking at around £150, at least that's what I got as an estimate. About £50 for the key to be cut, another £50 for the transponder and about £50 of labour to reprogram the immobiliser to accept the new transponder.

thanks
only one question now:
what I have is two keys. one non-folding, with immo, with buttons to remote operate the doors and another one, non-folding and no buttons.
after I buy this off ebay (the uncut blade and the spare folding key with the electronics) I still will have only two keys, as I need the non-folding non-remote key's immo chip to use as a donor for the new folding key? Am I right?

there are some key cutting/ locksmiths that will programme transponders for you if you wanted to have more than 2 keys
