Bill, do you get involved with the diffs yourself? im guessing you know from your car atleast, but do you sell/fit them yourself?

ooh that hurt !! when i went down to jabba to collect somthing thats wat one of the guys told me.... but he said u can still push more out of them. cos he showed me around and pointed out some Ibiza's running 350 plus, one in particular was running 380ish appaerently.

You sure he said crank? Ive never heard of that before.

Pistons/rods/valve change, but not heard of anyone changing the crank before:shrug:

I am surprised they would have said something like that.

Well after picking my LCR up from Jabba on saturday morning i havent been able to get out of it, thus the delay in getting back to you guys. The power is so addictive! I cant beleive the transformation. :-o The engine now has the eagerness to pull and pull, and thats on the low boost setting! It also sounds alot nicer too with the bigger downpipe and 100 cell cat especially when it comes on boost. The car hasnt been on the rollers yet so i dont know actual power figures but it feels alot quicker and smoother than before :D . It is booked in on the 27th to get it properly mapped up so i will know more then. :funk:

Aidy, have you gone straight from a 225bhp car to the 340bhp ish you are at just now, or did you have it remapped to 270bhp in between?

Looks like its going to be a stormer mate, especially when you get the rods done:) Another result similar to songman's maybe:)

He posted up some videos of his speedo not so long ago and it did pull very well, got upto 160mph fairly quickly:)

No, he's got a run in map for about 10 days i believe.

JBS do a similar thing when they do their conversions now aswell.

Not really BT, but even when i had my hybrid K04 fitted i had to wait around 500 miles before giving it the beans. It said in the instructions that come with the turbo along with the advice from JBS.

Obviously when mapping straight away, you have to give it abuse right from the start. I dont think that is reccomended, just like the way you run in a car engine when its brand new.

Although people like you, Bill, Wilko etc im sure have given it abuse right from the 1st minute it ticked over as Bill asked the very same question i believe.

It makes sense really to let it run in for a while, oil has circulated round, got hot, cooled down a few times, bearings being lubricated etc rather than giving it abuse straight away:shrug:

Thats maybe why people like Wilko have been through so may turbos:cry:

Maybe im wrong and you do all run them in:shrug:

It was mapped by Jabba before the conversion but it has made a big difference. Jabba told me to bed the turbo in for a few hundred miles before it had the full on remap. They have put a base map on for now until i go in on Tuesday. But even with this base map it is a completely different car! "Think i might ask them to leave it" No only joking. :lol: They asure me it will be more powerful when it has been set up properly so i will have to wait and see. Cant wait to turn the controller to the full on 4 o'clock position. :D

maybe they're attributing this "run in" period these days as some VF34 units have suffered bearing failures? mine never has, done a few exhaust housings thru excess heat, and never run in.
fit it, warm it up, check everythings tight, heat cycle it, and give it beans, :D
what exactly do you think is being run in? (roller bearings?)

2 of my VF34 turbo failures have been down to lubrication problems. The 3rd didn't fail, but the bearings got noisy after about 6k miles of 1.8bar. I changed it because I was worried. No shaft play. The 4th one is fine and after 3k on the car at no more than 1.45 bar is up for sale.

Turbo run in is meaningless. Let it warm up, check all fluid connections for leaks, then let the oil warm up and go kick the crap out of it.

Come back and check for leaks again. Nothing in a turbo to run in.
