hi all. bought a flippy key off the internet (old VW one 434Mhz). got a blade off the internet and got it cut as well.... so all i needed to do was i thought was get the transponder coded at a dealer?! rang them today and said that is not a prob but said i need a blade that has been coded 2! he said that was the big problem?! any one got one working?! if so i wouldnt mind how.

i started off thinking this was a good idea but its just gettin a right stress!!

Please help! or al lose it!! :cry:

I think they will mean that the transponder chip in the key will need matching to the immobiliser. You could just swap it with the one in your existing spare key.

I think that the immobiliser transponder and the alarm radio transmitter are 2 seperate things that both need reprogramming.

Hope that makes sense.

i had a go at taking out the transponder but its stuck in well! so i went off the idea. i asked that question about is he sure he was on about the immobiliser and transponder in the key. but all he kept saying was it wont work with just a key cut to the same as your own. i was thinking of leaving it a week and going in and seeing some1 else! might get more sence out of them.

would like to hear of any1 else that has got a fully functional flippy key!! :funk:

Three ways key works, 1. Mechanical (put in turn etc) 2. Radio (press button unlock etc) Can be coded in by you do search 3. Transponder (key in ignition recognised by car and immobiliser off) either swap chip, get dealer to code, or mate with Vagcom! Key blade is just that a blade I think he may have been more confused than you! So got blade cut, next sort radio for long range opening then transponder for starting! Easy really shame some stealers cant get it!!!

I've got a fully working flippy key! Although it caused me a good few headaches (but I was having problems getting the remote to work, which is completely separate).

Basically I reckon your dealing is talking out of his ar$e, although it's possible that he might be getting confused, as each key blade has its own code which enables a dealer to create a new blade without having the old one.

Say for example your key blade had a code of '1234', you could call up the dealer, give him the code, and he could order you a new blade without ever having seen your old one.

If the key blade is cut correctly it will be possible to open your doors manually, and start your car even without the transponder. The thing is that without the transponder the immobilizer will kick in and the car will stop again almost immediately.

The transponder therefore needs to be programmed to stop the immobiliser from kicking in. That's the bit the dealer needs to code. If the key blade has been cut, he doesn't have to do anything more with it.

Then you have to get the remote working, which (as already mentioned) is a totally separate issue.

I for one used the transponder from my spare, so I didn't have to go through all this hassle. I found that by cutting away a little of the plastic inside the spare key, I was able to get to the end of it enough to get a fine screwdriver under it and gently lift it out.

Hope that's of some use!

thanks very much. yer i have got a blade cut and it unlocks my door and as you said starts my car then cuts off nearly straight away. i have come 2 find that dealers are..... 2 put it frank sh*t at there jobs! they just dont have a clue. everything i ask they look at me gone out.

Just for your info, the transponder in your existing key is a small (and fragile!) glass tube. It should be in the blade end, sometimes stuck in with a bit of glue. Carefully remove this and put it in your new flip key (separate the two halves of the blade half of the flip key - look under the badge for a screw if levering it doesn't work).
