Hey people,

My car has an annoying rattle at 2000rpm (most noticable when in traffic in 2nd gear)

It sounds like its either in the dash or something just inside the engine bay on the firewall, anything noteable that i can do about it?

I've had the heater control pannel in bits but its nothing in there.

Any thoughts appreciated.

There is a heat shield on the firewall in the engine bay!

It came unclipped on mine and had slipped down, vibrating on the exhaust!

Re-clipped it and all was well!

Thanks guys, i'm pretty sure that the heatshield on my cat is loose because i get a flapping noise at about 80mph so i'll have a look at sorting that.

Will also check the heatshield on the firewall.

Cheers :)

Well I finally got the car up on axle stands to have a look and see if I could find the problem. Strange thing is that I couldn't get it to rattle with the front end in the air?!

Is the normal heatshield that comes loose the one on the front of the engine (with three bolts securing it to the manifold/head)? Or is it the one that runs under the floorpan?

Still annoying but I'm learning to live with it

The rattling on my car was the heat shield for the cat, i just took it to a garage paid a bloke 10quid and he went carzy with a hammer and chisel and proplem solved.
Saying that he did also say the the exhust was fitted wrong as well, he just fitted a mount, anggled it and hammered heat shield.

You don't happen to know if it was the heatshield that you get to from the engine bay or the one that runs under the car do you? I'm still not entirely sure what it is that is rattling on my car. Will have to have another look at the weekend...

Right, seeing as I've got (almost) all of the other problems with my car fixed I'm turning my attention back to this one!

I've removed the heatshield on the exhaust manifold so it's definately not that and I don't seem to have a heatshield on my cat (apart from the one between the cat and the floorpan).

What am I missing here?!

Ive just started 2recently get this problem, its like is behind the dash on the passenger side or in the engine bay somewhere. Im going to have to have a look and see if i can find out what it is.
