Advice before I kill again!!

It might be worth trying to track down the number for the main Seat customer services and push the issue with them. Perhaps go in and ask your local dealer for it, it might make them realise you're serious.

Right here goes:

Just had the car up on the ramps at work, and Im quite scared/pi$$ed off.

The brake pads on 3 of the brakes have shifted, ie on the sides that I can see the pads have moved at least 2 cm down the disc and are pointing out the bottom (you cant actually see the pads when looking from the top).

Are the pads not held in place by anything, like they are on other cars? ie a silver clip? I cant see anything like that on mine.

I guess the drop in fluid is due to the fact that the brakes have shifted so much!

This is not right is it? I need a bit of advice before I phone tha lady up and completely go mad, 3000 miles with your son in the back worries me slightly!!

I hope you get this sorted mate. But definitely get on the phone to the dealer that sold you this car, as this could be potentially dangerous.

(edit) Just a thought, but have a look in the various guides sections of this website and see if there is a guide to changing the pads on your car. This may shed some light on what exactly should and shouldn't be there. There is a guides forum section and also an info/how-to section from the main SeatCupra.net website

Right then, AA been out and had a look, the pads have come away from the backing plate on 3 of the visible pads. Took it back to Stoneacre, Donny, guess what:

"Its not a warranty issue!!"

Bearing in mind I only had the car since 5th January, when it had its 20k service.

Technically it's not a warranty issue in the true sense of warranty. BUT it IS an issue for the dealer who sold you the car not so long ago as it's their poor workmanship that didn't highlight the problem or, possibly, caused the problem!

I supposed it is plausible that I left the handbrake on whilst on holiday, they save stuck and when I tried to move the car, they have broken? Does the handbrake operate the front brakes also?

Does not explain why the fluid was so low though!!

I dont think the handbrake uses the front brakes, just the rear.

Fantastic, the dealer at Grimsby have said its not their fault, and its not covered under warranty.

Looks like I will be fitting new break pads this weekend.

I still strongly recommend getting in touch with Seat UK Customer Services before you go spending any money. It might not get you anywhere, but it might if you push it.

Havent you only had the car a few weeks? Isn't there a 30 day money back guarantee? I also agree with Rob get in touch with Seat UK and let the dealer know you have been in touch with them. When i had problems with a Seat Dealer I wrote a letter of complaint to Seat UK and sent a copy to the dealer. It was only after that, that the dealer agreed to help.

Think I will have to go that route, had the car 37 days, !!

Have paid £150 now for the pads as I need the car back tonight else its a long walk home!!

Will write to UK Seat though.
