Maybe its something to do with your car wheel spinning in 3rd and 4th gear. Maybe that's the secret. Your reverse lights used to power up your ECU and do some magic to give it some extra ooommph.hahahahaha

On a more serious note, what a MYSTERY. Is the bulb holder giving out the right voltage?? Was gona say if the polarities haven't been switched, but think bulbs are bi-polar.

I had thought about negative polarity, due to fooling about with a Mk2 XR2 bodykit on to a Mk1 Fiesta years ago and having to seriously re-jig the rear wiring (due to the lights being in the clusters on the mk2 and being neg polar..) but im getting good voltage every time and none when i drop out of reverse.. as said, I even tried ANOTHER part in there (complete bulb holder section) and STILL THE SAME!!

This is sooooooo confusing,lol. Have you tried to run two wires from the reverse light wiring (just hook them up to the blue clips), and just attach those to the bulb?? Another possibility is that the voltage is there, but the current is really low. In fact so low that it wont light up the bulb.

p.s. you must be doing a lot of running around constantly putting the car into reverse, running to the back of the car to check. ALSO, maybe you have already managed to fix the problem at some point, but you didn't realise because you forgot to switch on the ignition.

got a 'spare' passenger side bulb holder block thingy in the garage if that will help.....

can always raid the scrappy tomorrow for a drivers side one if needed

strange thing is Im GETTING the volts to the holder ?!?!?!

not really as such, (too little time with far too many other commitments at moment) but speaking to an 'Auto -electrician' was told it sounds like a poor earth?? wil investingate as soon as , (think the MOT is due end feb, so need to ,really )

Thats a damm good idea!

From my experience of bad earths in rear lights the lights do a mad flashy show. Indicate and all the lights flash very dim.

Yes, most Renault go like the above very quickly and that is down to bad earths.
