All HID's flicker when they are powered on for the first time from cold. They start dim and brighten up within about 5 seconds.

Joonspoon, Where have you put your ballasts?

Any pictures? :)

Probably a bit late now. Sorry I've been busy the last few days!
This shows the location of the passenger side ballast.

And this is the drivers side.

Fixed both with heavy duty velcro.
Before sticking the velcro I cleaned the panels with meths to make sure the velcro stuck properly.

My passenger side one is located the same, but my drivers side one is on the side of the light unit itself - can be seen a good few posts back.

yea i realised the flicker was the cycle they go through every time after a while.

joonspoon how did you manage to get the ballast in there on the drivers side, i tried for a good half hour and got really pissed off with it.

on the passenger side as there was room ive bolted the bracket on and the ballast is sitting nicely in it

i was very wary of sticking the driver one to the side of the light, if the sticky let go it is gonna fall into the spinning belt,

Mines has been stuck in on both sides with heavy duty velcro... used a good few cable ties on both sides to keep things away from the belt but if the velcro does let go it will only fall down about an inch or so :)

Cheers Guy.
I went for the same on the passenger side and I velcro'd the ballast to the side of the light on the drivers.

I love the way they power up - really cool in a geeky kind of way...

How the hell did you do the sidelights? I just can't get my hands in there - is it a bumper off job?

I thought I'd left that behind when I flogged the golf :(

Cool, I'll give it another try in the week.

Forget "in the week".
Wait until the weekend and give yourself plenty of time.

Re the ballast on the drivers side, I stuck one part of the velcro to the ballast.
Attached the other part to the velcro on the ballast.
Fed the ballast through.
Used long nosed pliers to remove the backing tape before pushing the ballast into place.

Hope this helps.

Guy.

i emean how did you physically get the ballast there, i tried on mine and there wasnt enough space, did you go round the back of the light in between the case and the fuel pump, take the coolant bottle out of the way? mine is too big to fit throug hthe available gaps

For those of you who still seek images of HID's on the go... I took this photo this morning (Arrived too early for my train...) they had been on for about 20 mins at this point.

I fed the ballast (with the velcro already stuck on) in from front to back between the pump and the inner wing.
Could be that your ballasts are a different shape or size to mine.
