Stupid mpg computer tells lies

Compared my mpg computer to the mpg worked out between fill ups over the last few thousand miles.
Result is computer shows average of 47.5 mpg, average based on fills is 44 mpg.
I checked the computer when I first got the car and it seemed spot on, 36k down the line and its now reading 8% high, anyone else checked theirs?

Trip computer(s) are rarely accurate, so I am told. Always optimisitc readings, that are about 3-4mpg higher than achieved.

Can't remember the exact reason behind it, but i'll do a search later

Probably based on the speedo which is always out????

If it is optimist, our lass is doing even better than I thought, her LCR shows about 22mpg so is she getting less than 20 in the real world????

I keep a note of every fill up in my elise but as she puts hers i I can't keep an eye on it.

Not to worry easy come easy go at least she is driving it as it should!

i was clocked on one of those road side speed signs that flashes up your speed and it 77 against my speedo of 80

I bet niether are acurate.

i hav done a check btween the digital average speed, the speedo and gps.

I never went below 90 on the clock, yet the average was high eighties and gps showed less again.

NB was in germany, I do not speed!!!!
