hey up Rikko,
i always use tesco 99, always hear loads of things about different fuels being different, just to throw another thing in there, i heard tesco didnt have as much lub in it as shell's v-power! so every now and again i stick a tank of v-power in it!

Now Ian hope all is well
Ye thats another thing to through into it which actually helps your engine rather than how much redbull (in human terms) it gives your car different fuels have different amounts of lube in them so your doing right mate.

I must admit guys i swear by optimax and now v power but my current tank is full with tesco 99 to see what its like but not had chance to test her out properly yet but i really want to try is BP Ultimate 102 awesome but no BP round here.
Rikko

You really need a few tank fulls for the ECU to adapt properly to different types/grades of fuel tbh so a single tank isn't really going to be a very good indication of what it's like.

True mate i understand this but although Tescos is closer i already feel bitrail to the mighty Shell:blink: . So it might not get many tanks of Tesco although every little helps:happy: .

The chim used to love Tesco 99ron, it also popped and banged a lot more which was an added bonus! Oddly it hated BP ultimate and felt well down on power even compared to Shell.

When I've run Tescos 99 and BP Ultimate I've not been able to run as much timing as with V-Power (logged with vag-com).

Certainly with Ultimate I can only run the same timing as with 95, I can't remember specifics with Tescos but I certainly can't turn it up as much as V-Power.

It might be down to the different maps/different cars. Edit: I mean that you might just be able to turn an Ibiza or LC up a notch more than an LCR, or whatever.

Shell's V-Power vs the others

Just had to add a post here as have seen teh far from true comments about Vpower and Tesco fuel adn hwo its made!
I too work for an oil company and woudl like to correct some of the statements that have been made.

Firstly, V-Power is ONLY made by Shell and is not lifted from other refineries.

However its different for your normal Gasoline and Diesel grades (Premium, ULSD etc) - most of the UK Oil Co's lift gasoline and Diesel from the other Oil Co Refineries in the UK.

I know taht shell ship there v-power to a depot in the South East of England and South West Scotland, where teh fuel is then supp.leid by truick acorss all its retail sites...including from production ssite in the NW of england,

Secondly V-Power and Tesco 99 are very different in their compostion. Tesco 99 contains upto 5% Bio Ethanol. v-power does not contain Ethanol. The 99 octane on vpower is achieved through belnding with more of the high value and high octane refinery blend components...note that gasoline is made from several hydrocarbon components (to make a balanced fuel)...the comments about octane vs where it comes off on a distiller and losing octane over time are completly inaccurate.

v-power gasoline also contains the highest level of detergent additive in the UK market.

This is not a sales pitch at all, I just hate seeing misleading and inaccurate comments being made about these fuels on all the different bloggs.

In the end it comes down to whether you guys see a difference in the fuels in your motors I guess!

High level of detergent is good for cleaning up your fuel injectors and the inlet valve faces on engines with non-direct fuel injection. Gets rid of Carbon deposits and gum that can give you a hesitation/lag in acceleration. The detergent cleanup will vary from one type of car to another, but generally if you've been a regular user of low-dose detergent fuels (I’m being careful in what I say here) then a few tanks of fuel with hi dose detergent will be enough to clean the fuel system up.

Of course if you use v-power all the time then the fuel system will stay-clean as well. But I wouldn’t blame anyone to use it intermittently to leverage the clean up effect.

In terms of detergent level alone I would say that v-power is better than the Tesco 99. But as I said before it is a different fuel (ethanol etc), albeit both 99 RON Octane, and the "proof is in pudding" so to speak...one fuel may give a better performance on your motor than the other.

Rob, if its the Tescos at Dalkeith I thought they sold 99 ron super however by the time I got to the pump it was only the 97ron stuff as I had zero petrol I filled up with it anyway. I physically felt the car knock back the timing when I went full pelt up a hill. Still running on v power at the moment car does seem to like it, if its another garage let me know what one and I will give it a go to see how it compares to v power.

Been using it [tesco 99] since I bought the cupra, seems to do the job, but I have tried a tank of 95 and a tank of BP 97 and couldn't really tell the difference.

No, my local Tesco in Corstorphine behind the policestation, I was filling up my runabout motor and noticed the 99 RON on the next pump.

Cool know where that one is, I will try it the next time I need to fill up. My cars engine seems pretty sensitive to different petrols so I should be able to tell if there is any difference performance wise at least.
