Seen this mentioned a few times and noticed that some specifications denote it against certain engines so..........what is this, what does it do & how can I tell if my car has this fitted?

Diesel Particulate Filter.

As I understand it, dpf cars runs what is effectively and additional cat to filter the soot out, then occasionally run the exhaust gas hotter to burn all the soot off the filter.

It's a requirement to get the diesels through EU5 (?)

it's not an option on SEAT cars in the UK, standard only on the TDi PD170. I think it is an option on the TDi PD140 on the Golf though according the brochure I was reading last night. They are a good thing to have burning off the excess soot which collects in the exhaust system. I don't think it allows to pass any EU regulations however, think this technology was first fitted to Peugeot/Citroen 307 HDi unit, if memory serves me correct.
