Brake lights come on too late

Hi thought I'd seen a thread on this recently but have searched and it's not to be found :(

I noticed tonight that my brake lights only really come on under hard breaking too... in slow moving traffic I can come to a complete stop with out the lights coming on. Bloody annoying! Only picked the LCR up on tuesday - 55 plate with 6K on it... I hope it won't need a new switch every year! :-o

I nioticed that Wackojacko has this same issue so is this a common problem and will it be covered by the warrenty?

TIA

Hi mate,

Yeah i noticed this the other day and then found threads about it being a common problem.
My LCR is booked into Seat 2morrow for them to fit me a new switch. I shall report back about how painful the experiance is !!

Cheers for the speedy replies chaps! Especially if this is one of those ''OMG not another brake light switch threads''

Wacko, are they doing it under warranty for you and which dealer are you using?

I'm worried that my dealer won't acknowledge that it's a fault and won't sort it FOC... will call them tomorrow and see if I can get it booked in for Monday - if need be I'll print off as much info as I can to back up the fact that it's a common fault!

Basicly my reason of dis-trust with the dealer stems from what I consider poor communication thoughout the sale - which suprises me tbh as if I was trying to sell a 15.5K vehicle I think I'd be bending over backwards to help!!!

EDIT: one more questiopn - how often are people having to get them swapped for new ones? Is it the same part for the A3, TT, mk4 Golf etc?

Phil, what dealer are you using? Camberley Seat are well worth the trip from Guildford (not sure if you are using Wiltshire & Sons in Farnham, but if its a total lack on communication it could well be). They do all the work on my LCR, are excellent for warranty stuff and they did my light switch under warranty while I waited. 20 mins top and they eve made me a coffee.

Well this will be my first trip to a SEAT garage, (I bought my car from a VW main dealer) Popped in there today and registered the car with the garage, and they said the usual, as long as i've got the warrenty book stamped up to date and the car is less than 3years old they'll do any work.

Sounds Promising. Which dealership are you using ? I'm going to SEAT DATCHET

Sounds like you've been over to Farnham

Where abouts in Camberly are they mate? They will honor warranty work even though I didn't get the car from them won't they?

Quite glad to learn that they're over there tbh as I had no idea that I didn't have to go to Farnham :D

I'll watch out for you Phil, I'm down there Monday morning with my red LCR! I assume you know where you are going now? Just head down the A331 towards Camberley. Once past the M3, 3rd set of traffic lights turn left into Admiralty Way estate - you can't miss it, there are two massive gas tank things by the entrance.

Farnham are just shocking - I allowed myself to be bullied into putting a securing deposit down on an silver LCR with sat-nav, because I had said I wanted sat-nav. It was coming in as part-ex, and they wanted too much money. The car came in 4 days late, in the meantime I had them ring me everyday hassling me about coming in. I got pissed off with it and just said give me the deposit back because I only wanted black or red, not silver. The ****** in there got really difficult about it and I ended up having a row in the showroom.

We test an LCR before this, I knew something wasn't right! They sent this young lad with my wife and I while we drove it. It was the first one for me, so I asked to try a route with some decent back roads. My wife drives it a lot and I wanted to know it wasn't going to torque steer all over the place and be a nightmare. The lad says 'we can only go on the A3 dualcarriage way'. Then proceeds to argue with me that there is no such thing as 'torque steer', and I was talking about tramlining. Nobs. And all this is the sales department! Service is even worse from what I've heard!

Right, I had this fixed by Datchet 2day.

Took 30mins, they knew what the prob was straight away, even gave me a check sheet suggesting they had given the rest of the car a check over.

My first experiance of Seat Service department, and i have to say I am impressed. I used to own a Renault 172 from new (1.5/12 months of ownership it was with Renault Servicing) and it's a breath of fresh air !

All good news then Jacko - may ask them to give mine a full check over too - I also want them to see if they can adjust my steering wheel as the red centre mark is off when driving a straight road ... :D

Reg, sounds like a similar experience to me - they had a second interested party in my LCR so I too was bullied into leaving a deposit... test drive was about the same as yours too! When did you go in there? Sounds like you had the same young lad as I did! All in all if it hadn't been the right colour and with low miles I'd have walked - they certainly won't see me back there!

I'll be down at Camberly for 10 so hope to see you on monday :D

I have just fitted a new switch myself and saved nearly £40 fitting charges at SEAT.

It took me just under an hour, but I was very cautious as you have to remove the lower dash.

I reckon with a bit of practice you could do it in 15-20 mins. So £40 is a bit steep even for a main dealer.
