where can i get a de cat from?

i have just bought a 2.0ltr 8v gti (pre-facelift), it already has a remus centre and back box

but i really want a de cat for it and i cant find one :confused:

if you do want one, there was a guy on CGti selling one for a 2.0 8v Mk3 GOlf (shold be the same I think)

will find the link if you're interested.....

doesn't look like it.supersprint web site has the ibiza with a 3 bolt flange on,golf III gti has a weld on jobby similar to the 2ltr 16v ibiza

Take the existing one off, bash out the innards and cut the lambda wires off.

(Yes I am taking the piss)

I wouldnt bother, you will loose that loverly low end torque

I had a de cat pipe on mine when i had my longlife exhaust put on, but as quote it ran like a piece of poo! And you need a cat for MOT so changed it back.

(Think and hope that i am talking about the same thing as everyone else :blink: )

i tryed taken guts out original cat and it sounded rubbish it woz like a constant rattle!

Go to a custom exhaust company and ask for a de cat pipe with the flanges so you can put the cat back on for the MOT only a 10min job and some soar knuckles!

the part number for the supersprint one i used on my 2.0 16v is 88.56.02

fits 2.0 8v AGG and 16v ABF but uses the 3 bolt flange so will only fit if your car has had the downpipe replaced at some point in it's life

does putting a decat in make that much difference then? i know you say u lose that low down torque but surely theres a plus to having one?

the plus is it's legal. why go to the bother of fitting/ re-fitting every MOT?

you'll prob find that most manuf. design engines & management systems to work as a whole unit.

In fact you'll probably find that a de-cat is illegal ;) . Its nothing more than a piece of pipe what goes in place of where the cat used to be. The upside is bit more top end power and torque. The downside is its very loud, has to be changed for MOTs, its Illegal, you lose some low down torque and sometimes it makes the Idle a bit lumpy.

A legal version is the so called sports cat, which is legal but at the same time allows less restricted flow. Downside to it is that its very expensive (about £250ish I think).

Most manufacturers design their engines and management systems to work as a whole but also are having to comply with all the rules and restrictions. Reason why they haven't fitted a decat as standard is because it would be too loud and the emissions would be too high. Same reason why air filters are usually enclosed types, rather than open air ones.
