Hi There! Not sure what i've done here but after taking advice from mates who've done similar mods to their cars i decided to De Cat my old 20Vt which my missus now drives....
The idea was to remove the cat so with a mates help we did indeed remove the cat and removed the cat's honeycomb by bashing it out ~ what a messy job but we got all debris out ok!:D
We put the cat pipe back on on then we thought that as the sensor probes where no longer doing anything we cut the wires off to the sensor things and wrapped the wires together with sellotape.
Things seemed ok at first but now a check engine light is lit  my mate now thinks that the brake light switch is causing this as he's heard that its a common thing on Seats and other Vw makes.
Is there any easy way to check this or do i need to book it in to my garage? The car seems to be performing better and it now sounds sportier

is this a pi55 take , you emptied the CAT out and then cut the lambda wires

heres your shopping list

one new downpipe (leon fitment)
two new lambda probes ( to suit)

things are bit more complicated in vehicles than doing what you just did,

omfg, your mate needs a proper good slap.... never let him near your car again

Stoneyford is right..... - each probe is £84, god knows how much a new DP & cat is.

But in short, because you've killed the engines way of telling how much fuel the car is burning you're in the dark.... you car could be running rich or lean, it doesn't know.

hang your head in shame for not asking the 'sperts first

Thanks for the info! My mate does need a slap eh! What i don't get is that he had no prob doing the same with Renault 5 Turbo. I'll no doubt have to get the sensors replaced but i'll leave the cat empty for now as it sounds better.
Will deffo get the advice off this forum before attacking my missus's car next time! Ta

i think engine management has come a long way since then , on 2nd thoughts werent 5GTs carbs , even if u replace the sensors the ecu will still show a fault and be in limp mode as it wont "see" the CAT , a sports 200 cell cat is what you need or certain remaps can ignore the code if you use a 100 cell CAT

the thing is, my car has got new cat and lambda sensor follwed with brand new back box. when the car decated it was loud at idle and sounded like subz.
after the new cat went in with a new lambda sensor the car dosnt sound 2loud. but some time it pops quite loud when drive normal with tap on accelrator.

if i change my cat to a cell 100 cat, will i get same sound as a decat? how much is acell 100 cat?

I'm afraid your mate missed something vital off the check list before performing this operation..... Its a totally different car and could be expected to behave differently to the decat/dismantle procedure.
I think you should take him with you when you take it to SEAT for the bits you need. Remind him to bring a cheque book for half the cost

No no, sounds like your 'mate' knows exactly what he's doing

Darwin's theory of evolution was written based on people like you. How you and your 'mate' have avoided natural selection is beyond me.

Arosaracer, why did you spend all that money and time finding a specially made de-cat pipe, when you could have just 'bashed' the innards out of the old one? What a waste............
