Hi,im about to get a mk2 1.4 sport and am looking for any info i can get on it.
its a 99 model.

just wondering what the bhp and torque is for this model, ive read so far 68bhp,75bhp and 100bhp :p .
is it worth doing a few minor tuning options, such as exhaust,4-4-2 manifold etc?do they add a little oomph?

are there any good sites (other than this of course) with good info, stats and pics i could look at?

thanks.

its the 1.4 8v engine in the mk2, and is 60bhp and 85lb/ft of torque i beleive is the quoted values

as for tuning its pointless, asked loads of time and its not worth it for the power gained. i think cold air feed and exhaust are about as much as anyone bothers with

I concur on the 60bhp and 85lbs torque

Tuning wise, don't bother. Exhaust and filter just make it sound nicer/louder

If you want power save for a gti or cupra.

If your gonna style it then you have lots of options, but a 1.4 is not one for being tuned up!

More of a question than an answer

Erm
not really answering your question dude but i thought i had read somewhere on here that you could change the injection valvue to the 1.6/1.8 for a little bit more oomph - think its on someones signature as well????
Though starting with 60bhp means your fighting a loosing battle really - a lot of newer 1.2's have more than that.

If its a mono-point you can upgrade the throttle body injector. But its not, its a 1999 multi point.

Tuning.....

Induction (i'd say green cotton)
Exhaust (change exhaust silencers for straight through ones)
Fuel rail and injectors from a 1.6 polo
Aftermarket fuel pressure regulator
Camshaft (cost loads for this car)
Weight reductions

With that lot it will sounds nice and run with about 70-80bhp. Not alot but with weight reductions of unsprung weight it will be good fun :)

again though for that much work the power gain is not worth it, hence why i am getting a new car in the summer with the 1.8 20vt engine

But your insurance is going to cost a lot :D

I say if you are going to have the 1.4 for a few years, do it. It will surprise you, my car does all the time. Rinsing a 1.6 megane for example :D

i do that anyway, have given a 1.8 16v astra a run and a 2.2dti vectra estate as well lol

insurance should not be too bad for me i hope, its going to be the cost of the car in the first place which will be the killer:redface:
