Well, its almost that time of my cars life. Its done 53k so within the next month I'm hoping to have the cambelt changed. How much should I be looking to pay. I was quoted £140 including Labour and VAT. Is this quote any good?
Cheers Guys

i know im a mechanic, but the only belt i changed was also on my 2.0L 8v. took me around an hour and a half.

even though its sixteen valve its still SOHC isnt it? If your arent confident enough to have a go , fair enough but its worth asking people will abit of mechanical knowledge. in all it cost me £22 ( £2 was the best torpedo i ate :) ) and that was for both belt and tensioner

glad my valver's sat on a pallet in my garage, it's going to make the belt swapping really easy!

That sounds scary mork. I'm actually pretty glad my engine isn't sitting on a pallet in my garage. But snugly in my engine bay

Guess I'll ask around couple more places to see if I can get it cheaper than the £140 all included.

I paid £12.53 to get my Cordy done, I supplied the parts! I loved the days of £10/hour!

It took the tech just over an hour, and he'd never done a VW before!

what's scarey is that it's all got to go in & start 1st time so not to dent my pride!

where's the WHOOARR attitude

it'll go in no probs with the front off - starting up is another thing but hey come on

whos da Fonz ??

as above yes the 16v is a twin cam but only has one external belt pulley so pretty much the same as the 8v to do - awkward a bit and Vw seem to use never ending sizes of bolts for different jobs but not too bad

im on my 2nd one and only done 4k miles :) at 54k i'd get it done YESTERDAY :( :(

yeh i thought it was similar to the 8v, unlike some DOHC cars where they run 2 seperate belts.. my old mans car has counter rotating balance shafts on belts... super
