i might just take the transponder out of the key and hide it in the car so the imobiliser is by-passed, then just wire in a seperate unit for an imobiliser...

Or maybe not

Could you not just glue the transponder chip, somewhere underneath the steering wheel or iginition? My audi flip key, now that I have had it cut opens all the doors and starts the engine but about a second after it starts, the car just dies! guessing thats when in checks for the transponder?

Would it really make that much easier for my car to be stolen anyway? And would it invalidate my insurance?

Nice one mate, how did you knwo that this is what transponder you needed?
I looked on that website and did a search on SEAT keys..

http://www.hickleyvaltone.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?manu=seat

When the list of keys came up, I noticed that for the Toledo 99 onwards, the key listed had a crypto ID48 (MG10) Transponder fitted.

So, I just looked up the same Transponder on their Transponders page..

http://www.hickleyvaltone.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?range=transponder

As I said earlier, I actually got mine from redtill who was selling them on SCN.

All I can say, is the crypto ID48 I fitted in my flip key works a treat after I coded it to the Immobiliser on my 2002 Toledo..

I guess you could, I did find that the range was about 10 to 12 cm from the lock.

Don't like the sound of not having an effective immobiliser though, and bet the Insurance wouldn't like it..
I personnally wouldn't do this !

My audi flip key, now that I have had it cut opens all the doors and starts the engine but about a second after it starts, the car just dies! guessing thats when in checks for the transponder?

Yep, that is exactly what is happening.. Mine did the same before I coded the new Transponder..

You will also find a fault code logged against the engine every time you do this, as the ECU seems to make a note that an attempt was made to start the car without a valid immobiliser key.
Mine did this, but I cleared all the fault codes out, once I was sorted.
Best you do the same, as don't really want an ECU full of unwanted fault codes.

MK2 key

Hi I’m a bit of a newbie to this kind of thing. My 97 sxe has a key problem. I have both keys but after the battery was changed in my button key I was unable to remotely unlock the car - even when I tried the reprogramming sequence. As I have the original key with the immobiliser chip in will I be able to change to a different key easier, would one of the posher newer keys work?
I want to be able to press the button again!!
Cheers

your problem is not an immobiliser problem. you just need to program the "remote " again.

there have been several methods mentiones in the mk4 ibiza glip key info thread, also have a look in your handbook

Programming a key:

1 - Introduce one of the keys to be programmed into the ignition lock and keep it turned (15), for no longer than 5 seconds.

2 - Remove the key from the ignition lock; then you have 20 seconds to program the first key.

3 - Press and keep one of the key's buttons engaged.

4 - At the same time, press down 3 times on the free button, for no longer than 10 seconds.

5 - Release the first button, the one that was kept engaged, the key lamp will flash 5 times.

If the control unit accepts the programming for the key, the central locking system will operate, carrying out a complete cycle of opening and locking the vehicle, during which time the flashers will also go on.

yeah I knew that, but thought it just meant the key was broken, hence the asking about the new key options.
The instructions I was given was for the drivers door. Is it the ignition and not the door?

Hey I did that, but to no avail. What does the " keep it turned (15), for no longer than 5 seconds" just turn the ignition on and then back off. Is there anything I have to point the key at? I get the flashing lights on the key just no central locking working.
I wanna be able to point and click. :(

Yeah thats what i thought, but no unlocking happens. The little red light flashes when i press the front button so it is transmitting. Hmm least I can walk away and lock the on the key. Dont help when its raining and im running to the car though grrr :(

Huh what? I held the front bottom down and pressed the back one (with the key on) three times then it cycled the central locking once. Thats all i did. How do you sync the buttons? sorry, im a bit stupid when it comes to things like this. Cheers

Ibiza_95 whoever is telling you it needs laser cutting is seriously wrong! If you look at it the key with even with basic knowledge you can see the swirls the mill makes! I got mine cut for 6.50 at a very small local locksmith and he definately had no laser cutter!

There are only like two grills you can buy for the ibiza and ones 30 quid off ebay and the other is extremely hard to find which means it probably costs like 50quid or upwards!

I just used some black mesh and used what little ingenuity i've got to sitck a little seat badge on to it! If type in grill into search you will find like twenty threads explaining how to mesh the grill!

here's some pics of mine!

Oh
The button nearest the blade is blank on mine, with the button furthest away being the one with a little picture of the key (which locks the car, and makes the hazards flash when pressed again). No matter what i do i can only make it lock. hmmm
