Ah cheers dude, may well give that ago, as much as i like the seat, that massive badge on the front is just a bit too much for me. Looks like that what i'll be spending my uni holiday doing :). Have to take some pics of my car now, so i can show the before and after effect :)

Thanx for all this useful info.

My quick story. I have a SEAT IBIZA 98 TDI GT 1.9 and my remote function on the key does not work anymore (although the led flashes on the key and the battery is brand new). I have tried several times to reprogram but no luck ( I might try a few more time though after reading this thread)

They key unlocks the doors manually and starts the car fine, so im guessing this thing you guys call transponder still works. I'm thinking buying a new key from ebay, cutting the blade and then moving the transponder from the old to the new to avoid step 3 of the procedure described earlier in the thread.

Problems are:
a. I don't which bit is the transponder !
b. I don't know how to remove it (might figure it out once i know what to remove)
c. Any hints practical tips from anyone whose done it already ?

Thank you guys.

You only need to remove the transponder chip if you are changing to a flip key! If you are then its the little box glued to the inside of the blade holder once you've pulled the key apart!

If you don't want a flip key( I have one, its fun!) then just buy one like this:

Thnks v. much for the info and links. I would like a flip key as well. I saw multiple flip keys on ebay but i'm not sure which one should fit my purpose.

My key is a two button key with the initials HAA on the blade, and the description "Siemens 433.92mhz 5WK4 790/97/98" on the fob

Just to let you guys know I tried syncronising the key about 20 times and it didn't work with the simple method. I found the spare key and I will try the other method as well (one key in ignition one key in the door) but I don't think thats going to work either.

I opened the key yesterday and noticed that on the tiny glass tube there is a small black ring like a burning. I'm not sure if that is normal or if that means it is gone. I have a picture of it but i'm not sure how to post it on this forum as I don't have an http server i can upload it to.

Anyways thanks for your help guys.

I will initiate new threads on the following topics since I intend to spent some money on my car to give it breath of fresh air (or should I say tuning box.. !)

Anyway my next projects will be:

a. Fix the heating/ventilation mechanism output knob- right now its stuck somewhere between feet output and windscreen output and wont move. I think the mechanism inside is gone. The fan knob and temp knob work fine.

b. Buy a tuning box. If im not mistaken my car is a seat ibiza 1.9 GT TDI 81KW 110 bhp. (Does anyone know how to verify this by looking at the engine). I'm considering various tuning boxes

c. Seat belts wont return to their original position after unclipping it. I think the spring/tensioner has gone soft. I need to find a way to replace them as it very annoying to have to tidy it slowly back in its slot everytime you get out of the car.

Iknow what you are all thinking..... Good luck
