Ibiza New Headunit and Remote Central Locking

Hi all,

Does anyone know why after replacing the standard ibiza sport 130 head unit with an Alpine one the remote central locking would cease to work?

I've read a few times how on new Leons the remote central is wired into the standard head unit, but haven't found any reference to the problem in the ibiza. I've tried reprogramming the key which hasn't helped, but when i reconnect the original stereo all is fine again.

I spoke to Seat, they seem to think there is a check performed by the ECU that looks for the head unit when using the remote and that they can remove that check by changing the software, for about £60, but they aren't sure so could be more if they need to play with the wires.

Can anyone help?

i had this exact problem i used a halfords iso adapter and the wiring was wrong you may find that the lights left on buzzer also wont work and the interior light wont come on when you take the key out
i then went back to the iso i had before that i made up was a universal one and just changed few wires around and works fine apart from it stays on without the key in ignition!
i took it to seat and about 40 faults were listed all thanks to someone at halfrods thinking they knew what adaptor it needed

I was told the other day by a guy with a leon cupra r, that wen replacing the stock h/u with an aftermarket one, there is one wire which u have to cut, to prevent the problems you are experiencing from happening.

I believe its because the diagnostic port can be used to check problems with the stereo, however once cut, its no longer a problem.

Don't ask me which wire though

You have the ignition and permanent wires around the wrong way, just need swapping over and it will work again.

I swapped the Seat H/U for an aftermarket one and never had any problems with the central locking or anything like that. Had the occasional problem with VAG-COM, but that was resolved by taking the fuse out (thanks to techie for that).

Some headunits (alpine is a good one) have the ISO around the wrong way. But if you look on the loom there is usually two bullet connectors on the yellow and red wires. This is so you can swap thme over to suit the setup.

Ah right

So does this mean putting the red bullet connector into the yellow one and vice versa may help? I'd like to try but i'm worried i'll explode my car...

It won't explode your car. Also does the headunit save the preset radio satations, if it doesn't it cause the constant 12V is plugged into the wrong connector Try wiring it up like this....

Well i swapped the red and yellow bullet wires, it didn't work. Then i realised the ISO adapter had fallen off

Works perfectly now, remote centrals back on, lights left on buzzer works, stereo turns off when i remove the keys and stores radio stations. Cheers guys, appreciate the help

i ve fitted an Alpine Iva dvd player and no problems,everything works fine

Mine is weird. I tested the radio presets by turning the ignition off before pushing the head-unit into the cage etc. They worked, BUT my stereo (JVC KD-G722) keeps forgetting that I turned the demo off and it never remembers where it was in the CD/USB, even though it remembers the radio presetss!!! VERY ODD. No other real problems but I have noticed that instead of the interior light and door unlocking happening instantly after removing the key it takes a few seconds then happens!!

I reckon I do need to swap the red and yellow wires but it's strange that it's not forgetting the radio stations!!

It probably just has solid-state and volatile memory...

The settings will be sored on a volatile memory, meaning when its switched off from the power it looses everything. This is probably so that if anything goes wrong, un/re plugging the headunit in will probably fix it.

The radio stations are probably on some solid state memory or have a small backup battery. Switching the voltage terminals as Techie said should fix this.

yeah I did wonder if the stereo had some kind of backup memory. Oh well, here I go again taking it out and re-wiring..
