Open cone induction kit!

had one on for last 15,000 miles got a brand new airbox of ebay for 1.50 the whole thing,

the thing i notice was this one had rubber bits on it where it pushes into the engine bay, my cupra one had no damping,

so put the airbox on with the standard cupra intake,

and it lovely, fixed all my little problems

hesitation cruising between 1900-2100
top end power
soot.

the only thing i liked orginally about induction kit was noise,

but now i don't with airbox it makes a lovely noise full throttle, little whistle noise
so very pleased and now just need to slot a green filter panel in there

Hhmm interesting reading james, im thinking of putting mine back in, will need to smooth it out first though, get the pd160 intake and then green filter.Mine doesnt smoke that much at all really, untill say the top of the rev range at about 4.2k on wards. It also depends on which fuel you use as when i changed from tesco to texaco it reduced the soot loads.

Supposed to be real bad news for MAFs as well. I've been running a green filter for a very long time now, and had no MAF issues whatsoever - combined with the cupra intake, it makes for about the best o.e.m air intake setup you can get.

To give another view, I had a Ramair Induction Kit on my PD115 pre-Allard work, didn't have any problems whatsoever for nearly 40,000 miles and it made for a nice noise.

Doesn't compare to the BMC CDA that Allard have now fitted - The noise the engine makes is truly awesome! Gonna try and get a few videos up over the next week or so.

BTW what work have you had done at allards? i have the VT2 turbo etc from them and love it, when it runs right

I had all the usuals - VT2 turbo, PD150 injectors, FMIC, etc... bolted up to a decatted big-bore exhaust. I know what you mean about having problems tho! My head / gasket was knackered within a week of having the conversion done - for 2000 miles the coolant pressure was immense even after a few seconds of driving, and I was losing 0.5-2 litres of water a day! I've now had a PD130 head fitted with new gaskets all-round, as well as having both driveshafts, cv joints, and most recently the hubs replaced! I've had to replace the hubs as my originals had the carriers cast as part of the hub, so there was no way I could fit the lovely new 312mm brakes / Porsche callipers!

The car's currently at the garage, and I hope to get it back tomorrow. Can't wait - it's been months since the car was working properly! Since the engine rebuild it has flown - I expect that Allard's estimate of 220BHP & 350lb/ft is fairly accurate. 0-60 can be seen off in approx 5.5secs, but on the downside driving with all this torque in heavy rain is hectic! ;o)

Back on topic, the BMC CDA is worth the money - fully enclosed, carbon fibre cold feed, and the noise is just gorgeous!

To be honest I recommend a panel filter over an induction kit to most customers.

Fully enclosed, car specific induction kits can be good, but open cone can be awful, for many reasons.

Yeah, same with me. 220bhp and really struggle to get a true sub 7 seconds. Managed 7.3 at Trax on cold tyres, starting in 1st gear and needing 2 gearchanges. It really is tough to get any quicker unless you have 4wd or LSD or a serious ability to launch 2nd gear.

For point of comparison, I recently had the better of a brand new Cayman S - I believe they are a late 5s 0-60. The 5.5s figure was Allard's estimation too... Either way, I love it! It's the 50MPG that's the real bonus.

Getting the car back this afternoon... fingers crossed it should be all working sweetly.
