The more I read about re-mapping the 2.0TDI the more tempted I am getting to having mine done! My main concern is still around the warranty, it's stupid that VW allow you to re-map the car, as do Seat in the rest of Europe but in the UK you risk your Seat warranty.

Starbank - How much extra did your insurance company charge? Does it come with some form of switch to let you change back to the original settings?

i am looking at a car that has a remap and has FSH so far, arent revo's undetectable pretty much??
I need to know this for sure as i do a lot of miles and cant risk it going pop 50k later or the warranty for the next 8 months being void!

Cheers

I dont know if anyone has had this done but my SEAT dealer said they can chip the car which will run inside with the cars warranty adding 30 bhp. I went down there yesterday but apparently they have got the upgrade for the new FR yet!!

I'm still utterly astonished that this is the same engine!

Not bothered with the Insurance just yet though - enjoying the car too much and don't want someone to tell me I'm now in Insurance group 13 instead of 9!

I have noticed a little extra smoke coming out of the back end though when I accelerate - probably because there's half a gallon of diesel more going through the injection system!

This week I've done approx 400miles and the trip is intimating 39 mpg - a drop of around 4mpg. Understandable though cos I've not exactly held off when there's a nice clear road if you know what I mean!

Had an FR saying hello tonight on the way home - I said goodbye!

Starbank,

Your remap sounds great, I would be interested to see how you do mpg wise after a few weeks running. Keep us posted :D

Cheers

Reading the forum threads I've noticed that there has been some investigation done on the diesel fules available. - The Telegraph for one. Basically says that Supermarket diesel is normally way higher in Sulpher content than the the likes of Shell and Esso and the sulpher content is the main reason behind the smoke.

I think this goes some way to answering the increase in smoke - just before I had the remap I filled up at Tesco. When I had the FSi I always used Shell Optimax and out of habit since I've had the TDi I've always used Shell Diesel - I was seriously low on fuel on the way up to Star Performance and Tesco was the first garage I came across! I have just filled up the car with Shell diesel so next week I will keep an eye out to see if there is a difference.

Either way I don't mind spending that 2p extra more for a litre of the good stuff!

Let's face it I would rather spend £24 on a bottle of Glenmorangie Malt than £18 on Sainsbury's own Malt everytime - the hangover is never as bad!

yes obviously!

i recon the 170 will remap to near on 210bhp.

but so won't be 250bhp,

it'll be able to keep up me me then! lol

I read today in Diesel Car magazine (December issue) that Superchips have taken the standard 170 TDi to 213 bhp, for a little over £500, that includes I believe warranty for work required caused by the remap not covered under the SEAT warranty.....

Just to say another 400 miles this week using Shell Diesel and there is a noticeable difference in smoke coming out of the exhaust. Had a friend follow me just to make sure.

Tonight I had an Audi A3 2.0 TDi following me around the Edinburgh bypass and it was very pleasing to feel the extra pulling power away from roundabouts - he obviously tried to keep up but never managed it!

VW do offer an upgrade on chip and exhaust to take 140 upto 168 and was assured was covered by warranty as vw parts sure seat could do the same!

Does anyone know if remapping would effect the shift point on the DSG???
