Alarm Problems

Hello all,

first post here, but looks like a friendly site.

Has anybody had any issues with you Alarm system on the new Seat Leon FR (1.9 TDI).

Received my car about 1 month ago now, and completely randomly at nights the Alarm activates. The driveway is directly underneath our bedroom window and I can confirm its not a case of someone tampering with the car.

Sometimes the alarm will just go off once a night, sometimes not at all. Last night it went off over 12 times

I've tried everycombination, unlocking the car and not locking it. Double clicking the lock. Single clicking the lock etc etc.

Took it into the dealer and got the usual response "cant see nothing wrong mate". Although he did say close the air vents at night that might help :-o

Anybody had the same type of problem?

Many thanks for any replies in advance.

Mine went off at night when it was in a locked garage. After a few visits to the car, I finally found the problem. I had a big moth flying around inside.

After several attempts, I managed to catch it before it disappeared down the air vents.

There are a few things which might cause it (I doubt that leaving the vents ope will cause it to go off.)

Boot catch dodgy. Could be linked to the rear washer hose coming off and dripping over the switch. Symptom of this is that the rear washer dribbles rather than squirts.

Bonnet switch. This lives by the main catch and can quite easily get dirty. Cleaned mine with WD40 just to rule this out.

And then the one which caused mine to behave like this: Dodgy ultrasonics. These live in the little pods which contain the courtesy lights above the doors, but the whole fitting needs to be replaced. Not cheap, but OK if you're still under warranty.

Got mine replaced and never had a problem since.

Its the alarm control panel on the drivers side door. New parts need to be requested from spain but as yet they have not caught up with the demand.

After hounding Amethyst Seat in Cheltenham, and the useless Seat UK Customer Service department for most of Monday, I was given a 1.4i16v Corsa "Design" - hired for me from Enterprise. What a piece of crap that car is. It's got *no* power at all - 0-70 takes about a mile on the motorway.

I just had a call from Amethyst to tell me that they've sourced a Leon 2.0TDi, just 117 miles on the clock, from the pool while my FR is repaired. The problem was diagnosed over a week ago and they still don't know when it will be ready. I might take it up to Scotland this weekend for some skiing - that should but at least a thousand miles on the clock.

I suppose I shouldn't grumble - using a courtesy car is saving 500 miles a week on mine, so the longer they have it the better.

I'm amazed that it takes so long to source a part for these cars.
