New Seat Leon - Squeaks and Rattles!

I have a fairly new (4500 miles :D ) Seat Leon TDi Sport - which is a great car!:funk:
Very recently it has developed a rather annoying rattle from behind the dash / steering wheel which doesnt let up all the time the car is moving!!

As you can imagine it is like the old torture method of leaving a tap dripping!

Has any one had this or similar problem? I was thinking of taking it back to the dealer but they may think im mad...the car is perfectly fine apart from this noise! I dont even know if they could do anything or if taking bits of the car interior apart would lead to more rattles and squeaks.......

They should be able to fix it, or at least look at it for you. The only problem is with an intermittent fault which of course never happens when you visit the dealer.

yep i have the same problem , mine comes from behind the glove box and only happens when i go over 80mph. Still to visit the dealer to get sorted.
I did notice a squeak for a while till i realised it was coming from behind me. The rear seats had been put down and when put back up were not fully locked into place, a good push a it locked and the squeak stopped.

phil2518, do you have any more piccys of your car? Ive just ordered a 1.6 with the sports kit and not really seen a decent looking pic of it, ( apart from the mocked up seat ones)...

Take it to your dealer, they will sort it no probs. I had a vibration from the OSR handle, thought it was the tweeter but apparantly a common fault on the MK2 Leon. They should fix it while you wait!

my fr tdi 170's in the garage today for a rattle when you depress the clutch at low speed and for running problem at idle causing the car to rock from side to side

This was a regular niggle on the old leon; squeak from edge of dashboard and from the tray under steering wheel area.

Dealer fixed the first by inserting some felt into the gap between dash & inner trim of the A pillar which worked a treat.

The latter can be temporarily solved by an occasional, accurate kick in the right place;)

Something similar may work on the new model.

the rattle on my car is actually a clip on the clutch master cylinder coming loose and causing the rattle dealer said theyd sorted it but mile down the road it came back again its probably to do with how hard the ride is and vibrating everything loose.

Hi Cheeseweasle,

Our new FR has exactly the same rattle you describe. i.e from behind the glove box at over 80 mph. Have you got it sorted yet? If so what was it?

Cheers

Funny you should mention that, ours seems to be rattling less frequently now too! Fingers crossed it may disappear :D

Hi Cheeseweasle,

After driving the FR more regularly on the motorway of recent I have a theory about the rattle that seems to be coming from behind the glovebox.
I have noticed that the rattle occurs at the same speed whether in 5th or 6th. Therefore it is not linked to engine revs / vibration. Also it seems to vibrate just as frequently on smooth surfaces as rough at this speed.
I noticed today in light gusting winds on the M40 that the rattle seems to be in tune with the wind gusts (I'm getting sadder aren't I  )
Conclusion, it seems to be eminating from either trim around the windscreen or the blukhead on the nearside of the car. Would this fit with your observations?

Mine went in for its first service today and I told them about the rattle. apparently, they are ordering the bit of dash vent in te dashboard that blows onto the windscreen as thats the only rattle the guy noticed.

I did tell them the rattle I am experiencing is most prominent at 110mph and dissapears at 130.... they replied.... I'm afraid our fitter WONT be road testing at those speeds.... :| lol

I'll report back when the new bit of trim is fitted and tell you guys whether or not that has cured the rattle ! :)
