I just need something to measure mine with... What milage are you at with that thickness?

You will need a micrometer to reach over the outer lip on the disc.

Milage is at 36K. No idea if these are the first or second set on as I have only had the car for 2K. 2nd set would be my guess.

Mine is at 45k and still on the 1st set - most of the first 34k was motorway mind - but they must be getting close now I'd think.

I had this on my LC, at service they quoted me £400+ for front disks and pads and I just laughed at them because I had just checked that there was plenty of meat on them the day before. I got them changed at an independant garage later in the year for £120.

the burbs...
Had the same situaiton with renault, scamming with the pads and disks. Told them to go and fornicate with themselves. A year later and the disks are still well within the minimum spec ( checked at MOT)and the orignal pads are still on, with lots of pad still left ( independant garage confirmed). They gave my wife with this bull manure story as they thought it would be some quick money.

My first set of discs lasted over 35k miles and that was using harder carbon metallic pads for half that time

I have just had my front discs and pads done at 41000 and that included 2 track days worth of wear....

It also only cost me £350 sourcing my own parts and getting JBS to fit.... :) Sounds like your steeler took you to the cleaners!

You should have fitted them yourself and saved even more money ;)

If I had fitted them myself I would be paying for front end damage as well as getting them fitted properly afterwards! ;)

Don't like doing things like that myself.... could probably do it but don't trust myself, plus could afford it this time... :)

I thought that but as long as you have a good guide / things planned out in your head, the right tools and take your time there's very little to go wrong with most things.

May be next time then... :)

;) You know you want to...

The prospect of fitting my DV, TIP, charge pipe and battery relocation brackets had me worried but it ended up being pretty straight forward. The hardest thing was getting the single use clips off all the standard hoses.

I did my DV with the help of a mate... :D

And fortunately got the TIP fitted for free on my service.. :D I will definitely be trying the battery relocation myself so I can get a HOOOOGGGEEE cold air pipe through! hehehe ;)

I was told by the dealer that my pads were 90% worn, which was true. But they also said my discs were corroded and worn and needed replacing. I found that the only corrosion was a slight lip around the outer edge of the disc.
I asked what the thickness was and they hadnt measured... I found it to be 27.1mm, and not ridged or grooved at all!

Also when I questioned why i was being charged for one unit of screenwash (about £1.50 I think), even though the bottle was full! the dealer said its because they drain all the washer fluid out and to stop it going stale and smelling!!! what a load of bull!! :censored:

I've bought my own pads from badger5 and will do it my self next time i'm home!

Won't be going back to Listers in Cov thats for sure!

They must have thought the min thickness was 27mm (yeah right). Its 26 (1mm per side) so your discs were only 45% worn. The lip is perfectly normal.
Yet another dealer trying to rip people off.
Over the years, i have learn to always outline exacly what needs doing and get a price. Never let them go ahead and replace parts without full justification and evidence. Have it checked out and go back later once you are sure.
Or better still do it yourself. That way you can ensure a proper job has been done by someone who cares about the car and not just making money. Think of it as you are making money (savings). It is so satisfying after finishing a job knowing that it cost only the part prices.

I saved £310 last week by repairing the motor brushes on the wife's power steering pump. A bit of a chore on but well worth it. Any dealer would have charged the full £310 plus fitting!!!

What I meant was THEY hadn't bothered to measure it, I had to do it myself!

I've never had a dealer service my cars before but then I've never had one in warranty before. I need to find a good local specialist!

if thats the case, then its part of the service. and should therefore be part of the original price given.
