i have a 98 ibiza cupra mk2 2.0 16v gti and love it to bits! but im wanting more power! so im thinking of putting a 1.8 20V turbo engine in it?
is this possible? what will i need to change other than the wiring loom and dials and will the turbo engine and gearbox actually fit?
also will the brake discs and calipers off of a 1.8 20V turbo cupra fit into 16" wheels?
all pointers and tips will be greatly appreciated! thanks.

Your brakes, callipers, driveshafts, hubs uprights, front subframe, rear subframe, gearbox, flywheel, both 'gearbox' mounts can all be retained

All you need to do (if keeping the clutch cable rather than hydraulic clutch) is change the engine, and rear engine mount to physically fit the thing in.

thanks very much. do you know the torque and bhp readings of a standard 1.8turbo? as im probably looking to chip it aswel. i wont need to fit a strut brace then i take it?
would changing to a hydraulic clutch benift in anyway?
cheers

156bhp/160lbft or so

as standard - it's no faster than a 16v (just easier to drive)

Hydraulic clutch brings with it a new pedal box, so it's more work for you (and something that could be retrofitted later)

so if its the same as standard is it worth me modifying the standard engine or would the results be better modifying the turbo engine?
cheers

the 20VT is a lot more flexible than a 16v

that said - I much prefer a 16v for 'fun' driving

depends if you want a capable stdish engine (remap) or head cams & throttle bodies on the 16v

ok thanks.
whats the (sensible)maximum torque and bhp i can get out of a modified 1.8turbo before things start going bang or clutches slipping and running gear being uprated?

if you use the 228mm clutch & flywheel from your 16v you should be OK for 'most' maps on the std turbo

figures - 220bhp/260lbft are what I've seen on a k03, but just not at the same time

is there anywhere you can recomend for picking up such parts as the engine etc or would i better looking at breaking and salvage places?

a breakers would be better - you could pick up all the bits you need rather than individual bits as you can pick them up

if i didnt go for the turbo what could i do to get near 200bhp?
what sort of cams?
ecu remap?

so theres nothing i can do to my 2.0 16v engine to get it near 200bhp?

It would cost you lots more pennies......

As said the swap to a 1.8t from a 2.0 16v is fairly simple......a lot of the bits you need are on the 2.0 16v.....

If you were to buy a 1.8t, you'd have a 2.0 16v engine to sell also.......

i have a grand for either the conversion or the engine i already have as im still unsure which route to go. if i were to go the complete engine change route i think id rather have a complete rear end write off 20vt incase theres anything i ever need. its just finding one
would my exhaust fit the turbo engine?
