Leon Cupra R Headlights (Dipped)

Recently got Leon Cupra R Ovni yellow - why did I not get one a long time back - wonderful machine 54 Reg. BUT how can a car with this performance come equipped with dipped headlights like this?? verging on the dangerous.
Also cannot get rid of squealing brakes, even worse when reversing.

Marshalls of Cambridge from where it came charged a load of money to 'clean' the brakes and changed a headlight unit, and the brakes are exactly the
same as of course are the headlights. As soon as they have made the sale, like everybody else, all interest is lost.

Before I get rid of this wonderful car can anybody advise is upgrading headlights possible

Help!!

You can get Ice bulbs or for about £150 - £200 get a HID Xenon kit and have it fitted this makes the lights completely different. They look awesome and the improvement is massive..... depends on your budget... :)

The brakes just need greasing... get to your local VAG specialist... :)

For the headlights you can upgrade to HID's there is a 'sticky' in the Leon section on this and some forum dicount I believe, the alternative would be something like Philips Vision Plus bulbs which are bright white rather than Yellow ish (these are a cheapish good alternative and the bulbs do not look Blue just bright white). Fact is though the side lights are not good due to their narrow design.

Search for squealing braking, there is meant to be a fix for the reverse 'clonk' sound that you get but the brakes should not squeal during normal use, this may be a lack of copper grease or the back plate slipping something....difficult to know till you take them apart. When you come to change the pads look at some cheaper better aftermarket replacements like Ferrodo DS2500's.

There is a full guide on the main forum to disk and pad replacement which is very easy on the LCR, consider doing it yourself and saving some £££

Totally agree about the standard lights - I've tolerated mine for a month, and that's about as much as I can take. The mains seem ok, but might as well replace them too... Bung a set of Xenon bulbs on (Philips VisionPlus, Osram SilverStar etc). They should be quite an improvement, for about 40quid.

Also, I'd avoid Marshall's like the plague. They're truly dire. Cecil & Larter in Bury seem OK, and I'm sure there are other Seat dealers around too...

As has been said, get some Vision Plus / Blue vision bulbs. Makes all the difference for not too much money. Try Powerbulbs.com - used to be a forum discount, not sure if this is still the case.

I would think long and hard about the headlights - the HIDs make such a difference it's like night and day ('xcuse the pun).

It's such a difference that I felt I wasted my money on the bluevision bulbs...

rear brakes can be done under warranty, its an ibiza hand brake bracket which they mod to fit the leon, works a treat... and its done on warranty! ;)

thats wat they did to mine!

have a search for it!

if ur brakes are squeeling from the FRONT whilst driving forwards then get some copper grease on the back of the pads. my original pads used to squeel a bit and when they ran out and i fitted my new ones i used copper grease and they have never squeeled since!

as for the lights, i thought the head lights were GOOD... i now have different headlamps with HID... you can get the HID kit for about £150, a bit less here and there... fit this to your head lamps and you will get a good improvment! :)

Just bear in mind that they are illegal to fit to a car without high pressure headlight washers and automatic self levelling. You are unlikely to be caught by the MOT people, however the Police do pull you over here in Harlow.

You can get the legal ones from that Dutch company, but they are several hundred pounds.

Simon.

no you change the bulbs and install two electrical boxes. It's quite simple really.

Usually though HID bulbs blind oncoming traffic if not levelled very carefully, as reflector type headlights were not designed to house such bright bulbs - usually projector/lens type headlights are better.

AFAIK the Leon never had HID's as a factory option, so to do it "properly" is out of the question. You can however install the HID's and level the lights correctly and it should be OK.

I THINK* that in europe there was an option for HID, BUT was LHD only! :(
