Airbag Warning Light

Anyone else had any problems with the airbag warning light coming on?

Just got into the car and noticed the light comes on whilst it does its system check then goes off for a second but then comes on and stays on.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to probable cause or solution.

Guess I might need to drop it into the dealer, (anyone know if Newbury Seat is open on a Sunday?)

Any help or advice much appreciated, all I can think of is that it has been sat in the sun all day and the steering hub was hot when I got into the car - but I find that hard to believe for a Spanish car - surely they sit in the sun most days !

When the airbag light is on, all the airbags are switched OFF.

It will need to go into a dealer to get the fault checked and re-set.

Probably something like the wires connecting the a/bags in the side of the seat got knocked off, had anyone with big feet in the back recently poking their toes under your seat? Although good to know that if the light's on they're all off, definitely not a good idea to ignore it then !

Nope can't see anything out of order around the seats - looks like it will be going in to the dealers tomorrow.

The air bags will still deploy whether the light is on or not, I have the same issue with my new leon, I checked that the air bags will still work as I have a young family in the car at weekends.

Please note confirmed by Seat Technician not me

The SEAT technician is WRONG!!!

The airbag warning light comes on when the system has gone into a "safe" mode. When in a "safe" mode the airbag ECU has detected a problem so doesn't know if setting off an airbag is the right thing to do (if you get what I'm saying) so takes the safe option of not deploying any.

Oh yeah, I have been on an industry approved and recognised airbag training course.

ar-coolc is correct.
did a technician tell you this or the service dept. receptionist?
safety systems always 'fail safe'. if your abs light comes on and stays on, while you can still use servo assisted brakes, the abs will not operate no matter how much your skidding around. this is what the industry deem safest. and i agree.

when i picked up my cupra from the dealer straight away the airbag warning light came on, they managed to reset it but several days later it came on again. when it went back to the dealers they found a fault on the airbag and had to replace it.hence i would contact you dealer asap

Fixed

dealer replaced airbag ignitor sensor (seems to live under the drivers seat somwhere) No further problems since.

After 5 days of picking mine up my light came on and they had to wait for a back order part to come in and took about a month!
Was not happy about driving at least 80 miles a day all that time with no airbags!
