hi,been using meguairs 3 step for about 2 cars/3 years now.and been very happy with the results(probably not up to your very high standards).
used on my (flat)yellow octavia vrs and (kinda metallic)cantibrian blue cordoba sx16v.
happy with he results.dads audi 97'A4 has come up lovely with it.
father in law has asked what i use and is considering it on his brand new silver nissan almera.
questions:

1.would he really need to use paint cleaner on it,as its garaged daily and washed weekly.is megs paint cleaner abrasive(smells like T-cut to me),not had a problem on my cars but i'd hate to fook up a new cars paint.
2.considering investing in a polisher, meguairs forum has a bit of a pc V rotary polisher test and the rotary came out slightly better,no way am i spending 100 quid on a 110v polisher and transformer looking at a few on e-bay at around 40+quid for a 6 inch head polisher(240v).would you recomend using megs 3 step with one of these?
3.3 step is circa 20+ quid from various places,or closer to 30 from megs themselves, throw in a clay bar and spray and we have a ball park figure of 40 ish quid.can you recomend something better for the same VFM.

new to this, so take your time and dumb it down.won't be able to reply much after 11 today till tonight so bare with me ;)
cheers

Check out www.detailingworld.co.uk, you'll find lots of advice and answers. Try posting the question about the Almera there and see whats said.

I understand that rotary polishing machines are rather unforgiving in the hands of the inexperienced. The Porter Cable 7424 (which may be the one you are refering to that needs the transformer etc) is much easier to use and will help avoid paint burning, and making more problems than you are trying to solve. Of course, its still possible to cause damage (by using the wrong clay you can cause damage), but its easier to use.

spot on regarding PC verse's rotary!

The DC step one is a chemical cleaner, and does not contain abrasives like swirl removing polishes.

DC2 is a pure glaze with some fillers, and DC3 the wax, by wax standards its ok, but not good for durability.

You will be fine using all three by hand on a new car.

jase as per pm the other night, get a rotary, even if you never get the hang of the polisher (took me 15 mins to understand it) you can still whack on angle grinder bits onto it and cut the car into little pieces!
