Just a heads up, on the facelift model all this does is disable the light completely, it doesn't make it red. The soldered led is orange only, it can't change colourThanks for that. Looks like I'll be taking my sweet wrapper out.![]()

Thanks for that. Oh well, saved me taking it all apart again.Just a heads up, on the facelift model all this does is disable the light completely, it doesn't make it red. The soldered led is orange only, it can't change colour
That's a good idea. Just found one on ebay. It's says it fits 2013-2020 models. If it's not red, I'll see if I can swap out the LED for a red one or make a better effect of making it red.No way, that's such a stupid design.
Kinda glad I didn't get a facelift, that would drive me nuts.
If the buttons are the same size maybe try sourcing a pre-fl button and switching it over?
If it's the one from yzautosalvageparts (I was watching it already) it's from a 2019 car, so it'll be orange againThat's a good idea. Just found one on ebay. It's says it fits 2013-2020 models. Noooooooooo. Yes it was.If it's the one from yzautosalvageparts (I was watching it already) it's from a 2019 car, so it'll be orange again
As far as I can see the facelift got orange LEDs as the equivalent Golf mk7.5 got orange switches, the pre facelift physically have a different led soldered insideNoooooooooo.Oh well, I'll have a spare to play about with. If it is orange, and it fits per/post facelift, maybe it's a coding thing? I know it's an option on Carista, but only for pre-facelift.
Sounds like a plan. I'll be interested in how you get onAs far as I can see the facelift got orange LEDs as the equivalent Golf mk7.5 got orange switches, the pre facelift physically have a different led soldered inside
I've ordered some red led chips for mine, and will try desoldering the factory ones and replacing them. Figured if I **** it up there's lots of replacements on eBay - I haven't got park assist on mine so I only need the 2x button version
If it works I'll write up a guide with what chips to buy etcSounds like a plan. I'll be interested in how you get on
Hi. I found that if you just pull up the scuff plate along the front doors and below the b piller you could thread the looms through. I tried to remove the bonnet release but gave up. Iwent along the front edges, in the footwell, and then used a trim removal tool to push it behind. I also took off the panels at end of dash and those above the footwells. I also found it helped to remove a plastic fastener under the outer seat rail. This allows the carpet to be lifted to get the looms under the seats, to follow the other looms already there. Hope this all makes sense.Got all the wiring and lights together to tackle the rear passenger wells now. Just a quick question for those that have installed the lights, do you need to remove the bonnet release handle in order to remove the scuff plate? I’m assuming this is where you guys have run the wiring alongside the airbag loom? I’ve had a good look at the manuals in the mk3 guides, but I can’t see how this comes off (400 bloody pages worth). I can only see the removal of the scuff plates, but no mention of the handle and having a look in the car it looks like this goes over the plastic for the scuff plate. Hope that makes sense and any help/tips would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
Jay
That makes perfect sense, thanks a lot for that mateHi. I found that if you just pull up the scuff plate along the front doors and below the b piller you could thread the looms through. Good luck. Give me a shout if you need any more info. That makes perfect sense, thanks a lot for that mate, going to try and get on to this at some point over the next week or so
Yes you need to remove bonnet release handle if you want to make your life a bit easier and run the cables as close to factory standards as possible. If you remove the handle then you can also remove half of the scuff plate and then you run the cable under the carpet and the insulation and through the hole under the seats.Got all the wiring and lights together to tackle the rear passenger wells now. Thanks for the video mate exactly what I was looking for, looks easy enough to take the handle off and should make the job easier. As for the handle you can find many videos to see it comes off. It's pretty easy. All you need is to remove it's safety clip.
I only have one done so far. 1 hour, 2 cut fingers, snapped carpet holder and lots of words I can’t repeat on the forums. I followed the wiring that goes in front of the seat rails and pops out under the seat, rather than going under the rails. Also made a mess of cutting the foam under the seat. They look decent though, I put the red led lights in. The wiring loom was long enough and the plastic light covers fit perfectly. The leds give out more heat than I was expecting, but no where near as much as the original bulbs! I think I have them set to 100% so will need dimmingI just installed them yesterday afternoon and it was a pain in the ass trying to run the cable under the carpet and the seat rail. I started thinking it'll be super quick. 2 hours later and my fingers all cut above the nail, i didn't even took a picture. If I knew the torque for the screws of the rail I think I would probably prefer to loosen the rail. I tried to switch the boot light with the Chinese ones to have the same intensity with the front, but it seems the Chinese and the boot ones have the same intensity (didn't have any courage left to remove the front ones to compare part numbers). But I think I prefer the rear light brighter cause my 3 year old daughter must feel better in the back with more light anyway.
Yeah keep us posted, be interested to know if they can be dimmed without flickering!
Annoying (for me at least) that all the interior/instrument cluster lights are red (and can't be changed), I've set the door ambient lighting to red to match, the door sill lights are red... But footwell ones are white?
Also hurts my OCD that the mode button lights up orange![]()
Cracking job mate. They look spot on.I finally got around to finishing this job. I haven’t had chance to drive it in the dark yet, I suspect the brightness setting may need turning down a bit, but very happy with the results. Thanks all for the links and help, much appreciatedView attachment 26404
