The miracle that is called the car cover. I am sure that would help and they aren't that expensive from Halfords. I will defo be getting one as my car will be exposed to the elements.

It means the wipers are quieter as the pivot point is under the bonnet so under the airflow when driving.

My daughter has just told me about her needing to get back to the dealer to sort this out, along with a washer bottle top that keeps poping off - I showed her how to stop that happening - although in a similar vein to the wiper chipping bonnet problem NOT REALLY GOOD ENOUGH! I told her to read her owner's handbook about getting the wipers into the service position as I was sure that I had read something about this before (ie here!). Her latest problem was pointed out to her today by me - FLAT REAR TYRE - SCREW AT EDGE OF TREAD. I did advise her against going for the 17" as it would hit her wallet harder if she touched a kerb or ended up getting a puncture - and the delay difficulty she woul dhave initially getting a replacement tyre. Unfortunately she has discovered I was correct - no one locally stocks 215/40 17 87V XL - and no one can order an identical Goodyear Excellance from their supplier - so it ended up being a job for Mytyres - I've used them before. There are few on-line places either that can supply an Excellance in 87V XL most only quote 83W ! You live and learn! BTW, early VX Cav had crummy wiper arm design, you had to open the bonnet to change the blades, I fitted a later type to solve that problem.

^ i think the knack to the washer bottle is to put the edge at the "hinge" side on first and then close it by rolling your hand from wrist to fingers (or from one side to the other if you've got big hands) rather than just trying to push it on like you would stopper a bottle of wine

what happens when your screen is icy and you need to scrape under them? you have to move them first?? wont it nack the rubber??

I'd say that Seat have not got a clue as to how people, for the past 30 odd years have needed to approach the task of raising the wipers when washing the car or clearing ice and snow from the screen. A f--k up is being passed off as a wonderfull design feature - they need to wake up and supply sorted wiper mechanisms, and if enough people shout and stamp their feet they might just do that.

A little bit off topic, but I've seen a few threads mentioning the Goodyear Excellance tyres, oddly my car came with Pirelli P7's i think. Is that rare of common enough?

I wouldn't say its a fu*k passed off as a design feature, the Leon would surely have the same service mode function - albeit for a better reason as the wipers are hidden in the pillars, but I like the fact the wipers are below the bonnet, means they don't obstruct your view, that was one of the first things I noticed about the car.

Yes this VAG item has not changed much over the years, my 200MY Passat one is quite easy to fit and feels "right", my wife's 2003MY Polo one is stiffer and never really feels - or at least gives the correct feeling that its on correctly, my daughter's 2010MY Ibiza one just feels totally wrong and gives no indication that its going on okay - you need to be quite rough with it as well as starting from the correct point/angle/technique - the whole bottle extension part gets hammered when you force the cover on. Seems like a good enough design but is not being manufactured to tight enough tolerances - so its a failure!

One issue I do have with any car manufacturer adding this feature into a budget car sold widely in Northern Europe where there a high possibility of extended periods of low temperatures, is that when the driver "finds" the car frozen up, the tendancy is to need to "waste" time clearing the windows - first smart thing for any driver to remember in winter is to make sure that the wipers are parked before switching off the ignition when leaving the car - so to avoid any chance of damaging the wiper system when the ignition is first switched on - trying to claim for any damage caused by failing to do that within warranty would lead to the dealer saying "no". So here we have a car, being sold, that needs you to, just when you are running out of time in winter, start to clear the window, stop, select the wiper service position, complete clearing the windows - and some how be amazed when its not the way owners end up doing this job - someone in Seat is brain dead - check out the weather conditions that these cars will see in the differant sales markets that they are being projected into! The idea of dropping the wiper mechanism below the air flow is good - but just have a look at who tried that in the past - yes "good old" British Leyland - and that was dropped quickly (Montego I seem to remember). This feature would only work way if it detected the on set of low temperatures and automatically moved the wipers up to the service position - and I can't see the justification in spending money on that essential extra.

Why do they not have a heated front window option on these cars? I find it on the ford to be absolutely amazing!!!!! this should be astandard option on all cars in frozen climates hehehehehehehehehehe. mmmmm I wonder if it would be possible to incorporate something like this aftermarket......................................

Ford have a paitant (cant spell :) ) so no one else can copy it i think or im sure other people would have copyed by now

As has been said already, I think that this is now not true (but can't say why exactly) and I'm also sure that some non Ford cars including some VAG cars are using this idea.

Though I do some one with a newish Mondy that has only half his screen heater working despite some valiant efforts using conducting Araldite after failing to flow solder down into the break. It still sort of fizzes and splutters!
