My FR TDI came from the factory on 91Y (no XL markings).

I put 205/55/R16 91H Avon Ice Touring ST on my 16" steel wheels last year and they were awesome in the rain and snow.

Got them in the garage to swop wheels this weekend :)

The WRG2 isn't a 'proper' winter tyre as such, more of a all season tyre tilted toward winter conditions. However, it will be an improvement on summer tyres.

I should be receiving my 4 new Dunlop WS 3D's in the full 18" size today!!

I had to search high and low to find winter tyres, and I too had to use go through MyTyres - didn't relaise they came over from Germany though! Even called Continental GB to try and find some 830P's but there is no stock - anywhere in Europe!! And they won't be making any more until next year...

Looks like I've timed it just right by looking at the weather forecast.

So weather; BRING IT ON!!! :p:p

Right,

Due to some unforseen costs (car and otherwise) I can't afford 4 winter tyres. Although I do need some new front tyres. I don't know whether to buy some Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, or some Vredestein Quatrac's to help in the slushy and snow that's on the way?

Anybody experienced the rainsports in the snow or the Quatracs in the summer??

Tyre pressures, what should they be?

According to another thread they should be +2 or 3. Garage reckoned that they should be down on summer pressures.

Manuals are not immediately to hand (i'll forget all about this by the time I get home tonight).

I usually use the standard cold inflation pressures quoted in the manual/filler flap.

But because the temp we regard as "cold" (ie not driven on & warmed up) gets colder in winter than in summer, you usually need to add a bit of air in winter to get back to the stated pressures.

When I checked my tyres yesterday at 6ºc, they were around 35psi. This morning, at about freezing, they were a pound or so lower.
So do I treat 6ºc as "cold", or freezing as "cold", in terms of inflation pressures ?

Oh it's all too confusing :D

Well I got the tyres fitted yesterday and have to say the difference is quite noticeable (wasn't expecting that ).

Can anyone advise on the best tyre pressure to run these at (or winter tyres in general)?

BTW it's a 2010 FL FR diesel.

TIA

Best bet is to look in the manual as it seems to vary from car to car and manufacturer to manufacturer.

My A3's for example run exactly the same pressures as the summer tyres, but I think SEAT recommend a higher pressure for winters.
