Didn't get an answer under the braking section so I'll try posting here:

Hi Everyone,

This is my first thread so hope I can get some usefull answers.

I own a 2005 Leon FR 1.8 20VT. There's a couple of things I want to ask about the brakes. They squeak a lot of the time, is this normal. The car has only just turned over 16,000miles but it seems to be doing ir more and more. It also sounds quite coarse when I brake, though I've had brakes like that before. They seem to be working fine though and had them checked for wear when the car was serviced in January.

When the time comes I would like to upgrade the brakes. Do the Brembo calipers and discs fit on a Leon FR. I'm on the standard 17inch rims. If not can anyone recommend other discs pads and calipers that would have similar performance? Do the hoses need to be changed too.

Thanks for all your help in advance

Michael

i don't know about the brembos i'm afraid but i used to work for an aftermarket spares company and i know that some of the cheap pads/discs make some nasty sounds under braking! they work fine its just the materials used are budget and can make squeaking, grinding noises.

Thanks for the reply. They are the original factory fitted discs and pads still on the car. It may have been there all the time but only noticed it lately.

i know it sound stupid but i assume you have checked them to make sure there not worn out to metal on metal/ got a bit of gravel wedged between the pad and disc. that the only other thing i can think of!

no, def not worn out. There's loads left on the pads and the discs are ok.

Might be a bit of gravel....I'll check

You need mk4 platform hoses to brembo caliper ends. Available from badger5 for about £50ish.

What size of brakes do you currently have?

I fitted LCR brembos to my golf a few weeks ago without anyy problems. Its based on the same platform as the leon.

They're the standard fitted to the FR Leon which I think are 288mm discs.

Can I ask what price the Brembos were and how much of a difference did you see?

If you have 288mm then you will be able to bolt the brembo calipers straigh on without replacing the hubs.

I have the 18" LCR wheels.

I paid less than £500 delivered for calipers that had just been redone in red + brand new caliper carriers +original LCR discs + AP racing 2 piece discs and brand new pads.

Hey guys, sorry for replying to such an old post but I want to know the same. Can anyone confirm the above is correct and that the lcr brembos fit straight onto the FR? Thanks

They bolt straight on mate, as said above you need to change the brake line but these are simple bolt on items to.
