Will cupra do 60 in second gear?

will the Cupra do 60 insecond?
reason im asking is i have problems with my car.

What kind of problem are you having with the car?

IIRC 2nd runs out just before 60... but i could be completely wrong though

Good point! I dont really put it right on the limiter so I guess maybe u could squeeze the extra couple of mph out of 2nd.

because my car has lack of boost and is very sluggish higher the revs go , and i can hit 52 ish if im lucky , it just wont go any further :-(

52mph is just in to the red line as memory serves. As gearing is going to be the same on any cupra with a standard gear box, one would assume there is a problem.

How fast does it go in 1st and 3rd?

Check the gear ratios. 2k in 6th gets you to 50mph. Use that as a reference and work back the maths for 2nd gear and that will tell you what you can get without taking into account wind & rolling road resistance.

This surprises me, I don't hve a Cupra just a mere FR170 TDi.

However my old Focus ST170 I am sure used to easily pull near 70 on the limiter, and a Cupra can't????

I agree but I am just surprised it is designed this way in terms of optimum 0-62 performance. The fact that you have to waste time changing gear to 3rd to get there??

No my ST170 was standard, not bulefinned and had a 6 spped box.

just dug out a few facts and figures and with an online calculator found that theoretically the cupra can do exactly 60mph in second, before you factor in road resistance etc.

but to do a 0-100kph (62mph) you will definitely need 3rd.

(the above assuming engine limited at 7100rpm)

I'm mainly just excited that the Mk2 has finally got its own "Can the Cupra do 60 in 2nd" thread - the Mk1 boys have had all this fun discussion for ages now.

This is what makes 0 - 60 or 0 - 62 a bit of a pointless measure, the figure is dependent on whether or not you need to change into 3rd as the fact you need to change gear twice will make the 0 - 60 time slower.
