White Seat Leon Face Lift

I have just bought a 12 plate Seat Leon in white......seems so good having a white car after having a 56 plate in black for the last 7 years. I have a question regarding washing it.

1: Do you guys wash your own cars or do you take it to the car wash?

2: If you wash your own, what products do you use?

3: I have leather seats, is there anything you recommend I use on leather seats?

4: Is it ok to use a pressure washer on alloy wheels, I heard the ABS wheel sensor can get damaged?

Finally --- 5: what do you use on exhausts? I have never used anything on my exhausts in the past but my previous car (9 years old) it started to rust.

I use autoglym shampoo and conditioner, if I'm polishing I use Maguires ultimate compound. For the exhaust, I use autosol and very fine wirewool to get the caked on soot off. Glass is autoglym fastglass and alloys done by hand with a microfiber cloth.

Never use swirling motions and always wash with care, it's when most paintwork is damaged!

5 - TFR or chemical free alloy acid

1: Do you guys wash your own cars or do you take it to the car wash? Avoid car washes like the plague, either automatic or the local , er, hand jobbie. DIY is best, two bucket method. I use noodle mitts , much better than a sponge. Snow foam first ( you can get adaptors for most jet washes) then rinse, followed by a noodle mitt wash , then rinse again.

Everyone has a personal preference. I use a mix of Autoglym, poor boys, Meguairs etc.

3: I have leather seats, is there anything you recommend I use on leather seats?
I used Autoglym products on the LCR seats, and still do on the suite at home.

4: Is it ok to use a pressure washer on alloy wheels, I heard the ABS wheel sensor can get damaged?
Use a good wheel cleaner ( the none corrosive type) a pressure washer will be fine to rinse off, just don't use one of those 'power' nozzles, and in any case don't put the lance too close.

Finally --- 5: what do you use on exhausts? I have never used anything on my exhausts in the past but my previous car (9 years old) it started to rust.
If its a stainless steel tailpipe trim, I use Autosol.

I've heard good things about the G3 Clay Mitt but not got round to getting one yet, has anyone else used one yet? From what I hear it seems best used with a strong shampoo mix as lube.

Yup used one after my clay bar just to be 100% - very good and soo easy to use. Not as effective as a bar in my opinion but vey good if on a time allowance.

One thing I will say is don't press too hard on it when using! The black part can make scuff marks as I found out when applying too hard on the roof. It does come out but did make me 5hit myself for a moment lol

Yep, pretty good too. Having never used a claybar before ( and having the dexterity of a rhino ) I thought this was the safest bet. I used what Farecla recommend, detailing spray I think. Iirc was on offer at Halfrauds.

Thanks for the info guys....you know the 2 bucket method, what i don't get is the sponge still goes in to the bucket with the dirty water so the mitt / sponge it still attracting the dirt, or am I missing the point?

Yeah, your missing the point, any grit/muck stays in the rinse water, the mitt/sponge will always be clean.

I mean, if you clean a dirty plate in the sink washing up, you don't end up spreading the remnants of food on the next plate you wash, in the same washing up water, using the same cloth/sponge do you?

Personally, I have a 2 washmits.....1 only used on the upper body & 1 I just use on the sills & wheels.

If you wanted to be proper OCD you can get grit guards for the buckets........god I need to stay away from detailing world

If you've the time and effort something like this can be achieved, I done this all by hand but took a lifetime and a lot of products
