guys, ive had a whining noise for a while now, does it more and louder on idle, when the revs are high then dop down, when they drop down the noise isnt there on idle only when accelerating, the noise goes when hard accelerating but is there on low revs... any ideas, noticed it more recently on the idle tickover than it was before?

you can hear the noise more when in the car, struggle to hear it when listening in the engine bay.

would this produce a whine under low load though becks, and does it all the time, doesnt the pump switch off when warmed cat up enough?

can you hear it inside the car, and struggle to hear on the outside?

very hard to determine where its coming from... iirc you can cycle the sai on vagcom, think ive done this before, would you hear the whine when cycled on vagcom on this?

Its an intermittant fault on Vagcom, its took a few checks before it showed. Yeah when you are sitting in the drivers seat its as if its coming from the passenger side footwell towards the centre of the car when its at its loudest, but when its more subtle it is hard to place.

just the fact its there all the time on revs, just really noticed it louder today when first started up, when the revs settle its quiet until you drive, then its there again????

Thats right, there on start up at its loudest then settles if you leave it running.

Tbh, my car is at 90k now and the gearbox whines in 3rd and 4th, so i'm unlikely to notice the pump over the gear box :-S

New one in the pipeline though.

IIRC the pump going is quite a common thing, it usually splits, but its fixable without going and getting a new one immediately.

just been out and done output test on sai, listening to the pump it whines when it cycles it.... not sure if it should make that noise when cycling tbh. as becks said when i rev the engine on idel it seems to be coming from near the passenger well area, no fault codes on engine section at all, had a look at the pump when cycling doesnt change not when i pull or push it, cant see any gaps but hard to see fully under there.

hmmh

LOL

My car suffered from those symptoms as a result of the pump, hesitating, losing power, wooshing noises where there wasn't supposed to be.

I'll phone a mechanic (my partner is one you see ;)) He'll phone me back shortly and i'll read the posts to him.

Lie under the car, looking at the pump and check for split casing or perishing near the rivets etc.

He said the dumping noise all the time it may be a diaphram problem in the dump valve,

Pipe problem

Or a burst intercooler.

He said to phone him or he'd phone you if you want. He is very helpful.

dv is forge so no diaphram becks, im suspecting a split pipe under the inlet manny as i can see fresh oil there now, just fitted fmic so this is brand new, and the noise was there before the install of the fmic

changed the spring in the dv to a yellow one from the standard and no difference

has the fella ever done a output test on sap via vagcom?

could you ask him if you dont mind if he has and what it should sound like when doing the test, i did it and it cycled and sounded like it was whining to me. also strange you can hear it in the car more than out of it?
