There are 2 different sat navs fitted to the Tolly,DX & non DX,generally the non DX were fitted to earlier cars BUT some dealers played silly buggers swapping them around (they often removed the head units to prevent theft when on a forecourt) the same unit didnt allways go back... Dont read too much into the manuals that came with the unit they MAY not be the right ones.
Simple way to tell - on the front of the unit it says either

Seat navigation system -(non dx)
Seat dynamic navigation systym (dx)

Dx discs will not work in non dx and vice versa so make sure you buy the right ones!

From memory the non dx is cd based the dx dvd based?

Dx introduced limited postcode searches amongst other things which the earlier one didnt have, like all factory fitted setups you are locked into the technology of the day unlike Tom Tom etc,and the dealer prices for the upgrade discs are a joke, but it dont half look the part:D

Thanks for the info, that's very useful. With mine being CD based and no mention of the word 'dynamic' I'm thinking I've got a non-DX unit, which makes sense when a DX disc doesn't work. However, the DX image that I had downloaded was a CD rather than a DVD image?

You're right about 'technology of the day' though, at the moment my 2001 unit has entire villages missing and what appears to be only a four or five digit postcode search! I believe an updated disc for either unit will give full postcode functionality.

Have just had a look at my 2007 discs for non dx,they are just marked as disc 1 great britan,- compatible with blaupunkt travel pilot and disc 2 scotland, n ireland & scotland, not sure if the dx version was all on one disc?
Know what you mean about the mapping on 2001 -great fun on the M6 toll where you drive across country for 20 miles being told to turn around by the voice:D
The later versions (i think 2007 was the last non dx update they are doing) does have improved postcodes but its still nowhere close to modern standalone units

So this is probably a silly question but I looked at a Toldedo (2001) tuther day at a dealer. Only paperwork was the most recent MOT and the service book, nothing else with the car. This includes any paperwork or CD relating to the Sat Nav.

Will this be a problem?

It might be worth checking that there is at least a disc in the head unit. The single slot in the HU is for satnav, just press eject and see if its there.

The user manual for the Toledo seems to be very lacking in detail, I've picked up more information on V5 'features' on here than I did from the manual! For example, it mentioned reversing mirrors, but nothing about setting them up. And the electric seats are in there, but nothing about programming them.

It would be worth asking for the radio SAFE code, just in case you have to disconnect the battery.

Thanks Slimy, might give that particular one a miss then. It was what i'd call a private dealer i.e. some bloke out of his house with about 40 cars for sale. Didn't seem to know much at all about the car and just gave me some paperwork and the keys and left me to it. Definitely nothing about the radio code etc and i'm nigh on certain he wont have it.

Will have to look elsewhere I guess.
