Which mode do you use your FR in?

I am just curious really if you use different modes or just leave it set in one.

Please state which engine you have as I am wondering if people with the 184/180 with sound actuator use sport mode more or less.

I personally use normal mode for the daily commute to work and sport mode if I go out on a weekend.

I've got the 180 and leave it in sport mode all the time. Did a motorway run at the weekend and used Eco to see if there was any difference, only about 2mpg better (42mpg) but the throttle response is really poor so not worth it

Individual with sport steering and normal engine and aircon.

Not a great fan of the actuator and feel the throttle response is the most usable in normal.

Agree with you on the throttle response, useless if you want to over take lol

I go for Normal on my commute to work which is a single carriage way, classic Yorkshire road. Eco for the motorways and then Sports for a Friday night drive home or at the weekend :)

Yea eco is stupid. You have to go full throttle until you click the kick down to actually go anywhere meaning you are full throttle more often! I bet it makes more sense on the DSG.

IMO Eco with DSG is dangerous - there's a good 1-2 second delay between stamping the pedal and being shot out into a roundabout after the space you saw has disappeared :drive2:

I keep mine in Normal most of the time for my commute (traffic heavy at times). I find Sport only useful if having fun as it holds the gears until at least 3k.

Agreed, ECO is crap. I use DSG in normal most of the time and sport for a bit of fun or quick overtake.

My Leon is a 1.4tsi and I leave it in SPORT if you want a quick overtake it is so bloody fiddly to press MODE, then SPORT on the touch screen before going back to MODE again that it is a pain to switch on the fly, i also prefer the red lighting in the doors now that most of the driving is done in the dark. Having done a long run in ECO i agree that it is only a couple of MPG better but is just not worth it for the horrid throttle response.

Would be nice if there was a button just to press for sports mode instead of the bother of selecting it on the touch screen!

And while they're at it make it close the menu when you change profile so you dont need to press the little x

Having the button cycle through the modes would be best IMO - light it Green for Eco, Yellow/White for Individual and Red for Sport. And a sub-menu under Car for changing settings.

On the DSG, does anyone know if flicking down in to S mode changes directly to Sport (including Engine, Steering etc) or does it just change the gearbox programming to increase the shiftpoints?

i use my 1.4 on eco in city traffic, individual at highways (streering sport, everything else eco), and sport at highways during night rides, well the city i live in (Istanbul) has so much traffic, you dont even need that throttle response, but it really affects when you swtich to sport 1 night a week and use it on eco all the other time :p

btw, wish we had 1.8 sold here too, the biggest engine here is 1.6 diesel and 1.4 petrol

Perhaps its because I'm an old git, but hardly ever take it out of ECO. I don't aim for gaps, I wait until the road is clear.

Still possible to get a good response though if needed.

When I picked it up from the dealer it was set to Sports mode (I'm assuming it's the factory default?).
I left it on Sports for the first month and didn't even try the other modes. I've not tried Eco but I tried Normal mode - I kinda prefer the steering in Normal mode but didn't like the throttle response.

I'm now on Individual mode - Steering=Normal, Engine=Sports, Aircon=Eco. The only thing I don't like on this set up is the white door lighting - I don't know whether it's the fact that it's on Individual mode or the fact that the Steering is on Normal which is dictating the door lighting?

I have tended to use Eco by default since I had the car (150 2.0 TDI with DSG and paddles,Done almost 10,00 miles now) and then just give a click back on the gear stick to blast over a roundabout or junction.

I do find that Normal and Sport are much more fun but I like to be frugal most of the time with the amount of miles I do and not putting too much stress on the engine before everything has warmed up.

I couldn't drive in sports all the times, the rev's it hangs at are too high for any kind of calm driving, don't get me wrong, its perfect for a blast but thats the whole point in my eyes.

A quick question for the manual FR owners:

I test drove an FR 150 2.0 TDI and an FR 184 2.0 TDI, both manual. I noticed that there is a sort of 'click' at the bottom of the accelerator pedal's travel. Both cars did this, almost like kick-down in an auto.

Does this have something to do with the throttle map depending on the mode you are driving in? I didn't get a huge amount of time with the cars to fiddle about, and the sales guy didn't know either.
