Hi Guys,

how do i identify which head unit i have in my car?
also, are they amplified or non amplified?

I did a search but couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

In my 53 plate Leon, I have a tape unit but dont have steering wheel controls or anything like that.

i just did a quick search on fleabay and the only cassette player i found for the Leon was a 'Brisa' model.

Any more info would be great.

ok, did a bit more research and it appears that i will need wiring loom pc2-69-4 lead (autoleads website).

will i also need an aerial adaptor if i want to fit an aftermarket headunit (pioneer)?

Alpine units won't need an aerial adapter.

Alpine units won't need a wire harness.

Alpine units are awesome.

Buy Alpine.

Agreed go for an Alpine you wont regret it at all, the sound quality is awesome and if you get a decent unit you can even get it to light up red to match the rest of the interior lights, i've got the alpine cda-9812rr and it looks and sounds the part.

ignore buying the lead pc2-69-4 if you buy kenwood, sony, alpine, jvc, pioneer they have bullet connectors that negate the need for it,aerial adapter required for kenwood, jvc, pioneer (sony has one in the box)

but as said above alpine are a cut above

My Alpine iDA-x305, fits the dials etc perfectly.

Near perfect interface for the iPhone/iPod and charged my iPhone too, which is always handy.

That's the H/U I want come birthday time! May I ask where you got it from?

I've looked at the 303 & the 301 which both still have the iPhone compatibility, but lack the gorgeous screen of the 305.
For the difference in price the 303 is probably not worth it, but the 301 is LOADS cheaper....decisions decisions!!!

It's a great h/u... Cannot fault it to be honest, it does very occasionally throw a wobbly and not want to work, but all you do it unplug it and plug the phone back in, and its fine again. Make sure the engine/ignition is on before you plug it in to avoid this, but this may also be because when I installed it, I forgot to plug yellow to red and red to yellow.... oopsie.

I too looked at the othe iPhone able Alpine units, but they all lacked the screen that makes this so much better.

The interface, works really well. Very easy to control while driving. Comes with the input cable for the iPhone/iPod connection, and can run loads of other stuff, like you can obviously get a cd-changer in the glove box, and you can run USB sticks off it.

My only critisism is that, it only comes with a little cloth puch for the face plate, and not a decent plastic one that my old Alpine units came with.

Apart from that, 10/10!

Guys,

my problem is that i already have a Pioneer motorised DVD headunit which i want to install. I will remove the stereo and see where this leads me. Will need to remember about the red/yellow wires....
