Which Cupra do i buy?

Hi guys, thank you for all your responses to my previous post. It has been extremely helpfull and no doubt you have saved me alot of money.

I have been offered a black 07 cupra with 16600 miles for £13000 and a black 57 cupra with 5500 miles for 13700. Both 1 owner and full service history. No grey import etc.

WHICH DO I GO FOR?????

And is there anything extra i should demand to be included when i buy this week

I'd go for the 57 plate and try and knock a few quid off it

I would check the condition of wheels tyre etc.

The 07 reg Cupra should have had its tyres replaced and a service, the 57 reg one wouldn't need any of these.

Also be careful as to which has Xenons, they are likely to have been standard on the 07 reg one but possibly not on the 57 reg one, if it was late 57.

As Donnyboy said take into account other options as well.

If the car is black check the paint for swirl marks, mine was terrible for this, a quick polish could mask then for a short time but to get properly sorted is about £300.

Are they both model year 2008?

The 57 one will be but the 07 could be MY07 or MY08 the change was for cars built in about May 2007. You can tell somehow from the VIN number. The black grill surroung became standard on MY08 but many people did change older ones.

What if i could get the 07 plate down to £12500 and 57 down to £13500. Is £1000 worth paying for a difference in 10k miles?.

You can tell the model year by looking at the VIN number which is displayed on the botton of the windscreen on the outside. If it says in the middle of the number 1P7R then its a MY07. If it says 1P8R then you got it a MY08

What's the age difference between them?

One for example could be March 2007 the other February 2008 which might justify a £1000 difference otherwise if they are a similar age I wouldn't pay more for than £500 extra.

Have you double checked that the 57 reg one has Xenons? Some of them definately don't.

Just thought I was talking rubbish earlier and the 57 reg one should have had a service.

Make sure that they have had one every 10K or 1 year, if a service is due in a month or two ask for one as part of the deal. The second service isn't cheap as far as I know. My 1 year service was £160.

Thank him for his time but tell him you have a lot to consider and walk away. They will want your money. You can always return if you don't find better. Others will match his deal anyway.

My old Cupra took 5 months to sell.

I part ex'd it in October an my local Audi dealer. They must have sold it on to a SEAT dealer as it appeared 3 or 4 weeks later on Auto Trader and the SEAT website.

It was listed as under offer a week ago and a bit of research it looks as if has been taxed, so someone must have bought it.

Based on that I would say demand is low for Cupras for that age, so bargain hard.

I can confirm that 07 plate was registered in march 2007 and 57 plate was registered in september 2007. I can also confirm that both have xenons. So servicing should occur every 10k 20k 30k 40k... or 1 year, 2 year, 3 year, 4 year... intervals right? And how much is the second service?

yup correct on the servicing.

The 07 Cupra should have had 2 services, the 57 1 service.

If it is March 2007 it must be a very early Cupra, think they only came out about then. Check that it has a spare wheel, I know some owners complained they did get one, not sure if it was in the Cupra or not though.
