I've currently got a Milltek price list sitting by me and the urge to splurge the £646.48 on a full resonated system (I could save a bit with a non resonated system but I don't want it to be loud) that's a turbo back system with a hi flow TDi cat. I have seen a couple of you have Milltek systems did you get the full system with the cat or just the cat back? Dose the car feel different? Are they loud? I was thinking of starting with one of these and a 160 intake before moving onto a chip and bigger stoppers. (What are the standard FR rotors 280mm,312mm?) Is this the sort of way I should be looking to head or would you recommend starting from a different angle?

std brakes are 288mm

You need 312's as standard - so buy them before a bent piece of pipe.

I got the CAT back system. Why pay £200ish pounds for a "sport cat" when you can put a flanged straight bit of pipe in for £40ish and just put the cat back in for the MOT.Milltek is a good system and very quiet so i didnt pay for the resonated system. If you really want to save money all you need to do is change the back box since the milltek and other systems all follow the same route under the car.Find yourself a GOOD powerflow dealer get a backbox fitted and i bet you wouldnt notice the difference between the powerflow backbox on your OEM system and a full milltek system.

I'm not sure I like the idea of removing the cat and driving a car that wooldn't pass it's MOT I'd guess it would invalidate the insurance as well as I can't see them wanting to insure a car like that.

All of it will invalidate your insurance if you don't tell them about it so a cat is the least of your worries.

Are you sure you want to mod it at all ? ? ? If insurance is such a big deal forget it ! !

I wouldn't do anything without first telling my broker but fitting a cat bypass would leave the car unable to pass it's mot in the form it would be used on the road. Having worked in brokerages I know the problems that would cause and that for the savings it's not worth the hassle. Of course having valid insurance is a big deal I've seen the consequences of having your insurance voided and it's a very big deal.

What do you think of the Milltek? I was speeking to them at Autosport on thursday and they were insistant it works well but they would say that. (I spent rather too long at there stand as I was trying to get a job on the next stand over ;) ) The Forge FMIC was on show there and looked impresive any problems fitting it behind the FR bumper?

The Milltek is a quality product as im sure any others who have it will agree, It makes such a difference to the way it picks up over the standard one and seems like it revs better and will rev longer than before. As for the Forge fmic, it was really easy to fit as i did it myself (not even a boost leak) and yep it fits behind the standard bumper no problem.

i heard that diesels didn't need a CAT to pass an MOT?

I don't think they will pass the particulate tests (comercial vehicles such as a bus don't need them as they have more lax rules).

You fit the cat and pass the MOT then take the cat off.If you are that worried about your insurance tell them you have a cat bypass pipe.Your car doesnt have to pass an MOT on the day of an accident, as long as it has an MOT you have told your insurance then you are OK.
