yeah the more i think about it the more put off i am, i mean he said the damage was done over a year ago and included suspension but soemthing deifnatly wasnt right with it as the tarcking was out really bad, like he had the steering wheel turned about 45degrees to the left just to go straight, and at low revs when pulling away there was a clunking noise coming from the back and he wont even go as low as 4 grand and the service which is overdue is going to be a pricey one so i think its a no no, ive found a few nice ones for sale on here so might have a look further into some of them, thanks for the help everyone, im desperate to get one lol!

Walk away and hold tight for a better example - it won't take long to come across. I'd keep an eye on the For Sale section on this forum as then you're more likely to trace the history of it's ownership

Just walk away mate.

For 4 grand you could get a straight cupra that will be easier to sell on in the long run.

Reminds me of when I was looking for a saxo vts a few years ago. Had my heart set on a saxo so I sold my fiesta and was relying on lifts from my parents and friends for a few weeks.

Was looking for ages for a nice example but unmolested, clean cars were hard to find. Out of the blue a white saxo vts came up for sale in autotrader about 20 miles from me. It looked like the one. Low miles, one owner, unmodified, FSH.

Not being mechanically minded I took a mate with me that works as a mechanic. Went to see the car and he took it for a test drive. I was desperate to get a vts and my heart was telling me this was the one. After the test drive I asked my mate what he thought. He said "I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't feel right, If it was my money I wouldn't buy it"

After 3 weeks of relying on mates for lifts I was desperate for a car and I could see nothing wrong with it. Told my mate I was going to buy it anyway. Told the nice young girl that I would be back in the morning with the cash. Went home.

Mate rings me later that night at 11.30. "If you're going to buy that car at least HPI it first"

HPI'd the car and it came back as a Cat C write off. I was so close to buying that car. It wasn't up for a cheap price either. My mate never had to buy a pint for the next couple of months after that.

DON'T LET YOUR HEART RULE YOUR HEAD

I wouldnt even of entertained him on it TBH i paid 4300 for mine with high 50k on the clock not really worth worrying about the mileage on the engines just look after them there is some on here with 100k plus running good power with no problems. Ive yet to remap mine but will be asap.

i wouldnt touch it mate, im a vehicle accident repairer myself and if it doesnt drive straight then dont bother with it, as the geometry will need doing, and if its had a heavy hit on the front there is likely to be chassis and strut damage which means even if you have it re-geom it will never drive true unless you have the car re- jigged, and if it had been jigged, front ends should be measured to make sure it running gear is all straight then it would drive straight in the first place, like some one else said it might have nice paint work and look nice but if its not straight then youre asking for trouble. Look for a straight car with higher milage, ive sen cupras on 180,ooo so the milage isnt a problem as long as theyve been serviced.

I paid £4800 for my Cupra with 45k on the clock in June 08. FSSH, 1 lady owner and HPI clear.

That was from a Seat dealer aswell!

Just hang on a bit longer mate, a minter will come up.

well ive walked away from it lol! had the car hpi'd today from my mate who works in the trade and it had worse damage than the lad let on and as you said kieran looking at the steering im pretty sure the car isnt straight. My mate spoke to jennings seat and they said dont give him anymore than 3 grand, they said if he went to trade it in theyd give him no more than 2700 lol, so i told the lad this and he just started being arsey lol, then said hed consider 3900 and i just said no chance lol, he seems to think its worth more than 4, so back to searching. Thanks for all the advice everyone :)

i'm glad you've walked away mate, you dont want to buy a damaged car in the first place, like everyones said its a big gamble and with the money he wanted you could pick up a decent cupra with a few essential/basic mods for that price!! good look with searching mate :)

Well over priced glad you dint buy that mate! Say a even a couple months down line certain parts dont fit propperly and you want to px it some where your looking half book price and if you sell private will be very hard buy one with a little more milage that you know everything ok, that would prob fetch about £1000 to £1300 at a auction (in trade too) so you see it well worth buying the 50 or 60k car the HPI clear
